Has anyone been here or leveried here? It's not far from the racecourse.

What's the hacking like?
Does it have schools?
Are the schools lit?
What's the turnout like?
Grass livery?

Thanks! Greatly appreciated!

I have been there, but not recently. Are you familiar with the area at all? If not:

Hacking is not brilliant, it is on a fairly busy road, you have to cross a fairly busy junction to access the hacking in Brockhampton and Swindow Village, but once there, there are some bridleways and Home Farm EC! If you go the other way, its approx 2/3 miles to Cleeve Hill common (this is what you see in the background when the racing is on telly) There are also some short bridleways in Woodmancote, approx a mile/mile and a half away. I would not recommend this yard if your horse is not rock in traffic!

It has a home made school, or at least it did when I was last there, which I think gets water logged at times. I don't know weather or not it is floodlit.

There is lots of turn out but there are a lot of horses there and I think they do grass livery.

They sell hay and straw on site and there is parking for lorries and trailers.

Impossible to get to at certain times when the racing is on.

I don't think it is dead cheap, but not loadsa money either.

Home Farm also do DIY, very reasonable, lots of good grazing but geldings only, they have to come in at night in the winter, you have to pay extra to use the school and lots of rules!

Horse is pretty damn good in traffic but I don't fancy crossing that road!

Will have a look at home farm, that would be great as I could compete on site couldn't I? (lack of transport).

Luckily horse is a gelding.

What sort of rules??!! I'll see if I can drop them an email.

They have loads of competitions on and regular training sessions which I have heard can cost as little as £12. Ideal if you have no transport.
Lovely yard and stables (block built). I have a friend who's horse has been there for years.

Friend had a horse on loan which she picked up from Kayte Farm. He had been on DIY livery but obviously not cared for - and no one at the yard had done anything about him either. He was very very thin and worm ridden..... this was a bit ago, so maybe things have changed

To be honest I am loving the idea of home farm! It would be perfect for us as I can’t afford transport, I did an XC techniques clinic there last year I think and really liked it.

Have emailed Home Farm as they’re closed on Mondays, any idea what prices are like? Could someone have an ask round for me if it’s not too much trouble?

For some reason I assumed Kayte Lane had good hacking and to be honest that road would put me off, plus race traffic would be a nightmare.

*I think* Home farm is about £20 per week, which IMO, is very reasonable considering the standard of the yard, stables and grazing. You have to buy hay and straw from them, which I think is also reasonably priced. They charge extra for parking a lorry or trailer and use of the school, which is why the I think the basic livery charge is good. Its quite secure too. Where are you ATM?

BTW, I'm not connected to them in anyway, I have been there in the past because my friend's horse is there, and more recently for comps. I would not keep my horse there as they don't do 24/7 turn out 365, and the hacking is better where I am.

Horse is on lease/loan in Bourton on the Water and I've been offered the chance to buy him for a very good price but I'd have to move him. It's a good price and busy working on ways to scrape the cash together!

Any idea what the hire prices are, is it the same as their website prices or is it cheaper for liveries? Is that indoor and outdoor?

That's not too bad really, he's not the sort to get fizzy if not ridden everyday as long as he has turnout so I suppose if I was having a tight month we could just hack!

I love the idea of being able to take him to events on site.

Do you know anything about Church Farm in Shurdington?

I think you can hire the outdoor school at Home Farm for only a few pounds, but if you were hard up, the outdooor school is used as the warm up area during comps, I'm sure you could nip in and 'warm up' too!

I don't know anything about Church Farm, not my area, other than that Cheltenham RC now have their comps there.
