I did an online quote on the weekend and got an email last night with my quotes. I thought the quotes were quite reasonable so will probably use them...

I was just wondering if any of you use them and how do you rate them?

Thanks!

We have used them for years!! ***Touch wood*** we have never made a claim. But when we have rang to change details they have always been real helpful, and had the new details through post in a few days.

Not the cheapest but really good at paying out, no quibbles and knowledgeable, horsey people on the end of the phone. I would always go with them and I have made several claims over the years!

They were great when I had to claim, paid out fast and with no quibbles. However they put a completely unreasonable blanket exclusion on my horse after the claim, so I ditched them and went with AmTrust who not only did not put any such ridiculous exclusion on but were also £200 cheaper for slightly better cover - no contest in my book.

My friend had a horse insured with them ,it had an awful accident when it got tangled in electric fencing then bolted into the front of the stable taking it right out ,the mare was badly damaged ,broken pelvis ,they wouldnt pay full amount after she was pts as they said she could have been a companion in the field

We've used them, always payed up quickly when we claimed. Good people to talk to says my non horsey mother! But the one annoyance I have is that I sent my girls loan contract off to them as requested, and they then added exlusions on (headshaking and hind legs) as they said that they didn't know about these before! Thought that was bloomin cheeky as we had not claimed for those and they should have acted on advice of the vet. However I expect most companies would do the same, still a bit cheeky though!

Thanks all for your replies.

Ive just done a few quotes and nearly spat my coffee all over the computer...So far the best quotes have been from E&L ...(

) and KBIS. im waiting for NFU to call me back tomorrow. I was thinking of phoning KBIS to actually talk to someone....do you reckon there would be any chance of dropping the price a little??

Im with KBIS and im going through a claim at the moment. The easiest company by far to claim, ive had major problems with e&l and some odd problems with NFU in the past.

Il definetly stick with KBIS. x

KBIS are brill.
They pay out immediatly on claims without quibbling and they are really nice and helpful on the phone.
I find them very black and white which is good. If they exclude something they will reverse it if its later proved by another vetting that there isnt an issue.
They will also encourage you to claim for something if its covered.. I didnt know my horse was covered for death but they told me she was and that I should claim, I did and they paid out! If they hadnt of said something I would never had thought to make the claim so they are honest too and genuinly want to help.

I've been with them since I got my boy - again not the cheapest quotes but reasonable and I was told they were reliable so I was prepared to pay a bit more. Having dealt with them now I would happily pay the extra as they have been fab.

They've just paid out on a continuation claim that was 3 times the first claim. I was very worried they wouldn't pay out as the problem had switched feet and my vet wrote on claim form that the two problems weren't linked. (They were, but he was trying to be helpful in calling it a new condition so we'd have twice as much to spend treating it.) He didn't know that in the mean time my policy had expired and the new one now excluded both front feet. He sent it to them direct rather than returning it to me or I would have told him not to! The first I knew of it was when I got a copy sent to me at home. I was sooooo worried but I needn't have been, I got a cheque for the full amount three days later.

They are also very friendly and helpful on the phone.

i've had 2 big claims with them and they were fab - that was with old horse.

with new horse, they put some exclusions on his policy after the vetting, but after a letter from my farrier after a year they lifted them with no quibbling.

when i wanted to try hunting, they did me a day's cover for £10 instead of insisting I up my class of use for the whole policy year.
