KBIS Insurance Renewal... OMG!!!!!

His hocks have been excluded from his policy.

Think yourself lucky it is only his hocks that have been excluded. They excluded all hind limb lameness with one of mine attributable directly or indirectly to the hocks. And also the diagonal front limb!!!

As I have stated previously, they are normally the master of the exclusion clause. However, when they pay out, they pay out very quickly - credit where credit is due.

Remember remember that the primary motive to underwrite insurance risks is to get premium income sufficient to make profits for the underwriter. Claims payment etc is a different priority.

Doesn't surprise me with KBiS - they were spectacularly unhelpful when I tried to make a claim & did everything they could to avoid paying out. I cancelled my policy mid-year and moved elsewhere, it's a pity their people let them down with appalling customer service and communication

I had the same experience!! Was very upsetting at the time as I thought I had insured with a good company. I was too upset at the time to argue with them as had to have my poor boy pts, more fool me for not fighting them :(

I am with KBIS and have been for around 7 years now. One horse insured for £2000. I have never made a claim and steadily my insurance premium has risen last year it went up £100. But this year like you it was over £800. I shopped around got some other quotes and called them they dropped my public liability as i'm a BD member and dropped his class use to Elementary and below, hes currently competing Elementary, the only risk of him going higher relies on me ever mastering the art of sitting trot which is not likely in the near future, and got it back down to just over £500. Every year i threaten to cancel it but i know the minute i do a massive vets bill will come my way.

The lady you spoke is wrong - with any health based insurance previous history is always relevant to the premium, whether excluded or not.

i didnt find this to be an issue with KBIS they did pay out for our pony's hocks and then obviously excluded them (they do a 15 month claim time scale for each condition though rather than 12). The premium the next year only went up by about the same amount as normal annual increase (less than £50 for the year). This was only 3 months ago. about £45 a month on an older pony. I however have not renewed as she has too many exclusions for it to be worth it.
OP I have no idea why yours has increased this much! I'd shop around

again very surprised, I wonder if it depends who looks at it. I forgot our pony was covered for vets fees and had her hocks done. Paid for it. When my renewal came through I realise she was insured for it. Put a claim in 6 months after they where done and KBIS paid out with no question.
I only had this 1 pony insured with them, my cob is with NFU but NFU dont do much for older ponies and so I didn't use them for her. What a shame they have let you down.

My experience of KBIS is very efficient and fair in paying claims but then completely and utterly hammer you on renewal in terms of extensive exclusions and massive premium hike.

Horse is insured for £1k with KBIS under their Bronze cover. The cost of the premium last year was £431.07. I put in a claim for his hocks to be done which cost £550 but they refused as its a pre-existing condition apparently.

The renewal has come back for £806.97!!!!!!! For a £1k horse. WTF?!!!!!!!!

Absolutely unbelievable. Lady said its because the underwriters have taken such a hit with people putting in claims last year. That is utter daylight robbery. He has been insured with them for 2 years and they've not paid me a penny.
I would find another insurance, I won't touch Kbis for all the tea in china.

That is a ridiculous quote.
