KC registered?

I must admit it has never occurred to me to go to a licensed breeder. I can see it has good intentions, and if it helps prevent a single puppy farm it is a great thing.

Well there's no mention of one high value litter. Thougn undoubtedly the tax man may be interested!

It states breeders breeding three or more litters and selling at least one pup from those litters?

The legislation is clearly aimed at those breeding for. 'business' purposes which is definitely a good thing!

Now I am confused We only ever bred 1 litter per year only two from most bitches in their lifetime so would I now need a licence I did sell all the pups from my kitchen owned both dog and bitch. I have no plans to breed any more. Although am looking for a black lab pup for my nephew

Well I don't see why it would stipulate that breeding 3 or more litters a year requires a licence if it was a legal requirement when breeding one litter per year?

Thanks for your advice everyone. We have found a suitable breeder and our fully health checked kc registered puppy will be coming to join our family once he is old enough. Breeder is happy to hang on to him if lockdown is extended ?

Christ, that was quick....

I'll be honest, it would depend on what I was looking for and why.

I'll hold my hands up, I should never have had Dobby but I couldn't leave him.

The last pedigree dog I bought I asked about KC reg/health tests for the breed although it didn't matter as she was a spayed pet and would again if we were buying a purebred dog. The likelyhood is we'll be buying for sport and will be after a cross BUT it's a small world and will be very picky. The last little I liked the look of, both parents were KC reg and health tested for their respective breeds, was mums 3rd and last litter and they are fab dogs....just 3 years too early for us if I'm realistic.

As a consumer I found it difficult to source a puppy. Many years ago I found a terrier pup by word of mouth round the corner from me. This was about 18 years ago. Our next two dogs were rehomes.
Our latest pup I really struggled to source. I wanted to buy from someone reputable and local. I was sure I would not buy from a puppy farm. I had an idea of what I wanted - smooth coated tri colour bitch, small jrt type.

I ended up buying from a registered KC breeder for half the price of the gum tree alternatives. She is a bitch but tan and white and broken coated. I bought her because she had a lovely temprement and was a great find. I did not realise JRTs could be KC registered and it is reassuring to know her mum had this litter at 2 years old and is not being used to breed until the end of this year. She will then be speyed. I was happy to see the health checks and again didn't realise some of the potential problems could be tested for.

I would look for a KC registered breeder again for these reasons and also because the price was actually cheaper than half the on-line alternatives.
