Keep an eye on your trees!

Just had a bit of a surprise - one of my fields was fine when I checked immediately post storm this morning. Went back to feed the horses this evening and a massive tree has come down at some point during the day!

Not using that field at the moment thankfully - but it gave me a bit of a shock. I've been out round the field I'm using, checking that the trees aren't damaged/wobbly!

Similar thing happened here. Three large branches had fallen during the big winds, which we dragged out of the way. Once it calmed we did a full fence check, made some adjustments to the electrics and wandered back on the yard congratulating ourselves. Just then noticed a massive conifer, that had snapped off half way and fallen on the yard in the five minutes we were away. Crazy.

similar with us, was up at 7am, they were all spooky but in one piece. had text at 10.30 to say friends mare had got barbed wire fence on her leg and it was across the middle of the field, and a tree was down. but definitely wasn't at 7am! luckily she has not too deep cuts on her back leg and only one other horse cut itself out of 10 that were in the field.
our satellite was working in the gales and now this afternoon has stopped! (not as problematic as tree in field but annoying!)

My friend and I heard a noise while we were riding in a forest inclosure this afternoon. Couldn't make out what it was. We then met someone who had been walking her dog and had just missed being hit by a falling beech tree just outside the inclosure gate! There was also a fallen tree that we couldn't get past across the path in the inclosure.

I have just got in after helping a friend move a tree that had somehow managed to come down across the driveway just missing his tractor and tool shed (but was close enough to block and slightly dent the doors to them) and barn. was very lucky nobody was hurt and once it was chopped enough to get the door open and proper tools out it was easy enough to cut it to a sensible size so they could get the vehicles in and out but it could have been nasty if someone had been walking or driving past at the time
