Yeah we have loads in a few of the fields we hack in, I have been at the yard 10 years and never seen any there before, so maybe its just this year there is more!

That is so random, i've seen so many in my horses field this year, but never ever before!! They smelll and feel edible, but i've been picking them out of the field just in case...

If they are giant puffballs they are the size of footballs and are edible ...They are unmistakable in size and shape however, if you are unsure do get someone who knows to help identify them. They literally look like big white footballs and there are loads of recipes for them! I have cooked with them many a time! Google recipies for giant puffballs.

Puffballs are safe to eat as you can't mis-identify them. They should only be eaten when they are bright white inside and are yummy cut into slices about 1cm thick and fried in butter and garlic.

If I get a really big one I cut the top off, scoop out the inside and chop then fry some mince, onions, garlic and the inside of the puffball, load it all back into the puffball, attach the lid with cocktail sticks and then bake in the oven. A most impressive dish and very very tasty.

Hmm, be veeerrrrry careful with mushrooms though, the wrong one could be deadly, actually kill you. I don't touch mushrooms generally, as if you touch the wrong one (and some of the harmful ones can look pretty innocuous) and get spores on your hands that you then put in your mouth, you can be poisoned that way too. (well, so I am lead to believe anyway!

I wouldn't bother with a field guide tbh, unless you are an amateur botanist, I'd find someone who knows alot about it to help you instead. Free food is always good
