My 3.5 tonne box has just passed it's mot had new tyres, cam belt, battery full service etc etc!! So ready to roll! Problem is that my new foal in a couple of years won't fit in it, he's going to grow bigger than any of us anticipated!! Anyway do I sell now with it having all the work done or do I wait for another couple of years until I know for certain that he is too big?!!

To add to this OH is after a second car at the moment for work so it would be an ideal time to get a 4x4 as the second car hence thinking about doing the swop now!!!

What do people think???

I'm doing the opposite as I find towing even one horse very expensive. I think you generally get better fuel economy with a lorry plus you usually have a tack locker to keep things in rather than your car. When towing one horse I get about 20mpg, my friends 3.5 tonner gets 30mpg with 2 horses in it. There are taller 3.5 tonne boxes.

The cost of running a lorry is much higher than having a trailer if you have a 2nd car that you use anyway that can tow. I had to make this decision a while ago as one of mine is so big he doesnt fit in standard lorries without taking a few partitions out and standing at an angle which would have ruled out me taking my other horse out with him. My other half traded in his car for a jeep so i just bought a trailer Ifor Williams 510 and they both fit in with room to spare. Other than buying the trailer & insuring it hasnt cost us anymore than when we didnt have one. Had we bought a lorry it would have been another vehicle to tax, mot, service, insure etc etc etc.. Plus the reliability factor was an issue - i could afford a fairly new jeep and trailer but if i had gone for a lorry it would have been much older and therefore possibly more unreliable.
