Is this a possibility at all without being on full livery and only seeing the horse a couple of times a week?

I'm thinking of moving into our house in Chelsea, it's off the kings road. I'm used to DIY so really would prefer assisted DIY. I think it would be impractical to look after my horse twice a day so assisted DIY would be good where he could be brought in/turned out once a day.

Also need a yard with all year round turnout, good hacking, a decent menage and where the horses are well looked after.

Iv'e looked at a couple around chobham area but that is not a good area I don't think as it still takes an hour from door to door.

I'm starting to think that it is impossible, that it's just too much to drive through London every day with the traffic and everything. I want to see my horse everyday as thats why I have my horse.

Does anyone else live in this area and have a horse? How do you do it? Are there any yards close enough to make this a realistic option?

Thanks

Well, I live in SE London, but suffer with a similar problem. Yard is a bit of a trek, and finding a decent one which fits your bill can be a nightmare. I have my boy on 5 day livery at the moment, due to exams, but hopefully that will change. Works out very well though. I know there are a few yards around Richmond and Wimbledon, also around Surrey there are loads - I think Claygate and Epsom have some decent ones, which isn't as far out as Cobham I don't think? I think there are a one or two around Hounslow too, and have heard of some near Croydon.. No idea of what they're like though, and they're all a bit of a pain to get to at times :o There are public transport options as well. Sorry, a lot of this is mindless ramble  It can be done, but there are compromises to be made... Have a search on here for areas which would suit you, there are loads of threads about keeping horses around London :) Good luck xx

Thanks :). It seems that most places close to London want to do full livery and thats it :(. Will keep looking, it's a bit of a minefield it seems!

I used to keep mine in Epsom when i worked in london. Banstead?Sutton also have a few assisted DIY yards. Good luck, hope it works out x

Thank you, Ive just been doing some quick research and epsom seems quite plausible! Ive found one yard that do assisted DIY and are apparently 43 minutes door to door which isn't too bad!
:)

There are 7 yards in Claygate / Chessington all immediately off the A3. Of those 4 that I know of do assisted DIY, the others may do. Whether they have spaces or not is another matter - but it might be worth a try. PM me if you want contact details.

Do watch out for those "it's only x minutes". We used to drive out from Westminster to the horses, down the A3. From Kings Road you'd have the same problems - traffic. Getting to the yards we were at (part livery) could take anything from an hour to 2 and a half. Coming up to Christmas, driving near/ on Kings Road is awful. You've two football clubs who have lots of at home games and if they're both at home on the same day, turn around and go home.

Good luck!
