Is this a possibility at all without being on full livery and only seeing the horse a couple of times a week?

I'm thinking of moving into our house in Chelsea, it's off the kings road. I'm used to DIY so really would prefer assisted DIY. I think it would be impractical to look after my horse twice a day so assisted DIY would be good where he could be brought in/turned out once a day.

Also need a yard with all year round turnout, good hacking, a decent menage and where the horses are well looked after.

Iv'e looked at a couple around chobham area but that is not a good area I don't think as it still takes an hour from door to door.

I'm starting to think that it is impossible, that it's just too much to drive through London every day with the traffic and everything. I want to see my horse everyday as thats why I have my horse.

Does anyone else live in this area and have a horse? How do you do it? Are there any yards close enough to make this a realistic option with a drive of no more than 40 mins?

Thanks

What about the yards that back onto Windsor Park?
Its going to be a bit closer than Chobham.....or you could try Richmond. Some cracking places to hack there!

Really! I just assumed they wouldn't have hacking or turnout. I'm not that familiar with different areas around London hence this post. Thanks, i'll take a look!

Hi have a look at fifield/Windsor/winkfield area that is easily assecible frOm junction 6 of m4 and only 30mins to London. There are lots of liveries around this area.

I used to live in London and keep my horse in Kent - the drive was about 40-45 minutes when good and a nightmare when traffic was bad, e.g. if they chose to dig up the roads from my house out to the A12/A2.

After two months of that I decided to move to Kent and commute in to London Monday to Friday. The train is a pain but still better than doing it the other way round and at the weekends I am already where I want to be :)

Try Claygate, Bookham, Epsom Cobham (not Chobham). Richmond/Kingston yards don't tend to do assisted DIY.

Thanks yep just looked and they are all full livery! Which is fine but I don't work and I like to look after my horse myself, it's why I have him :).
Epsom seems a possibility. I have found one or two that do assisted livery and are a supposed 43 minutes door to door ;).
We'll see, it may not work as it may just be a bit too impractical.

Thanks very much.

You could always keep your horse in your back garden or one of the Central London Yards. The riding in Central London is relatively safe as there is a 30 m.p.h speed limit. There is plenty of hacking in Hyde Park, Wimbledon Common, Richmond Common, Hampstead Heath and the other parks.
