I just spoke to a friend, and she said she was buying a big shed to keep her horse in. She was talking about a wooden one.
Would it be OK to buy a shed to keep a horse in?

if it has turn out in a field and goes in a shed at night that should be fine as long as it is big enough safe secure and has a widow and a top and bottom door and well ventulated i can not say way not!

If it has turnout in the day/ night i cant see why not. Shed floors are usually wooden so the horse will probably fall through it. Also most window have a glass window i think this should be taken out. Also will the horse fit through the shed door?

Please don't tell me this shed is gonig to be erected in her garden?

Shed as in a field shelter type? perhaps that is what she meant? or does she actually mean a large garden shed lol!

I dont think sheds are practical to say the least, not sure about anybody elses horse but I know a few that would quite simply rub its backside and push its way out of shed if it wanted, wooden stables have kick boards, most stables have proper strong stable doors and tie rings etc and there all for good reason.

My pony lives in a shed (not that it looks like one now). It has been reinforced with kick boards all along it and has grills where the glass was. They do need to be reinforced with something as even now if she has a scratch on it, it can wobble it little bit.

I don't want to sound rude but it sounds like a cheap option that definitely isn't in the horse's best interest - whats wrong with a stable or a proper field shelter?! I think a shed will be dangerous and will look scruffy, to say the least.

Does she actually MEAN a shed, as in garden shed? This isn't just a question of terminology perhaps?

My horses have run-in sheds, it is just an expression. My hay lives in a shed.

Garden sheds may be a bit flimsy.

Think you can buy a single stable for about the same price to be honest, don't know why anyone would choose a shed. Fair enough if you already have a big shed you're converting but why buy one instead of a stable?

We keep our little 2 in what we call a goat shed. Not sure its really a shed, but its been reinforced, has a large space for ventilation and they do fine in there

Depends what she means by shed really!

By choice Id rather have a big shed rather than a single stable for the obvious reason of space! The horse would choose the same too.

I do hope she doesnt intend to keep this horse permanently in it. Awful IMO. But would be fine if she just plans to bring it into a shed at night.

My friend used to stable her old pony in a shed...but then it was very aged and arthritic and hardly moved....even so it was re-inforced

......the shed, not the pony!
