Waiting for the farrier to call me as to when he can come and look at my horses shoe which he half pulled off yesterday in the mud.
At the moment there is no horn damage, it just looks like the nails have come clean out so I have vetwrapped it and then put duct tape on just to secure it really. I have kept him in today but I want him to have some turnout at some point over the weekend.

Now when I have done this previously I haven't put anything else on said hoof and he has come back in at night with the whole thing shredded and wet, now the field is very wet and very, very muddy so I was wondering if I could put something else over the top to keep it all dry and when bought in I could just throw it away and repeat the following morning.

Hope all this makes sense and doesn't make me look a right looney.

The only way really is a plastic bag over it, but your going to comprimise grip so youd have to put another vet wrap over it..

Cant you just take the shoe off?
Where in the coutry are you?
All you would need is a pair of pliers

Lou, I am near Uttoxeter, and the other side of the shoe is still well nailed on , I would only make a mess of it.

I am debating about having to go bare on the fronts as he has soft horn and with this wet muddy weather he os prone to pulling the shoe straight off.

I had the vets out Pool House and the vet there said that this type of horse shouldn't be barefoot, so I am confused as to what to do with him, the farrier can't keep trying to nail on.

Thanks very much for the offer , I knew you were in the business as such by your replies to other posts. I will let you know if my lovely but hard to get hold farrier can't make it.

Cheers
