I am SO confused!

So I clipped my girl back in October

In previous years she has always needed re-doing a month on and then again early January. I have always kept her really rugged up as she is a demon to clip and I dont like having to sedate her too often.

SO, why is it this year she is STILL on her first clip, even though I have been putting thinner rugs on her in the attempt to encorage her to grow it out??

She is 22, and I thought they grow tend to get hairier as they get older??

Or is it because this is the first year I have bought my OWN clippers, and shes refusing to let me try them again!!!

I mentioned this to someone the other day and she also said a few of hers had kept their clip this year... which is odd, as I think it has been really cold? Has the cold stopped the hair growing??

Anyone else had the same thing??

thought I had just been rugging my boy well! My 23yr old was clipped begining of November and still looks as if it was done yesterday - perhaps its an age thing ??

I clipped my horse in november, it was our first winter together and he was a nightmare to clip, that coupled with my poor technique has left him looking ridiculous.
I didn't worry too much as I thought the coat would grow back quickly but it hasn't.
I daren't take him out looking such a state and just hope it grows back soon.
Strange

How much does rugging effect growth though? considering that the lack of natural light makes a horse grow a coat. My cob has only needed two clips this winter which I was suprised at as hes a very hairy boy normally, this is the first year I have clipped him so will no next or the next if this is going to be normal for him.

this is the same problem I have!! The clippers had a fine blade in them, and it still looks... well, wrong!!

I also put silly hearts on her bum as thought i could take them off a month later, and they are still there... (yes I know, childish, but i was 'experimenting with my new toy!!)

so we are going to quadrille practice with silly hearts on bum, and I cannot see the point in sedating her, just to take a few hearts off her

I just want them gone!!

I clipped 3 of mine right out; a 6 yr old shetland, a 16 yr old welsh x arab and her 12 yr old daughter, none of them have grown much, daughter is getting a bit hairy on her neck as she's back in a standard shape turnout. Clip was done November, all living out 24/7 for the first time in their lives this year. Last year they were all done twice, the shetty 3 times.

Was expecting the same this year, but they've mostly just gone a bit wiry, rather then growing out.

Very odd!

perversley, the colder it it, the better they keep their clips....or so if find-i had to do mums hairy beasty every 2 weeks oct-dec when it was mild but not since and he is still bald as a coot!

5yo is starting to show a summer coat, hurrah!

Mine hasnt been clipped since the begnining of December and also normally has to be done in january some time. Maybe its just the weather, not a lot of sunshine to encourage new coat growth seeing as thats what triggers moulting etc

Not just you! I have saved a fortune this year in vets sedation fees, my boy still has his original clip and looks like it was done yesterday, I was only saying the other day how odd it was, I've normally just done my final clip this time of year and thats usually the 4th or 5th at least!
