Keeping cuts clean

Anyone have any reccommendations for keeping cuts clean and free of infection... My little filly has pulled the skin of any old injury which has caused a smaller version of the old injury on her front pastern.. And her she has a scab on her hind fetlock.. Now she much stay out and when these were fresh in nov (back one not healed fully and it was slightly deeper but smaller) but the front one had... She had to stay in and got colic.... Anyway.. She had gone through the river yest so I washed it with Virkon to ty and get rid of the mud then put white powder on, and it's gone yellow and crusty.. Do I leave it or wash it again and powder it? Or what do you put on?! She is on her own in a field but her mates are the other side of the electric fence! And there isn't much mud, only if she wants a drink! Suggestions would be great please!

I would clean it with hibiscrub or similar, salt water would work fine too. Then apply intra-site gel or manuka honey - they're both pretty good at promoting healing and keeping any scars away!

Manuka honey - make sure it has a UMF or 10+

Also put a water bucket away from the mud

Supermarkets, health food shops etc Manuka honey never really comes sheap but it is cheaper then a vets call out!

Yeah I would use honey

Powder can cause infections as it gets trapped in nooks.

If honey isn't workig then perhaps try some spray on plaster?
