In this hot weather, please make sure your dog is drinking enough!

Watch the colour of the urine, and maybe the pinch test.

Popped my tribe out for their lunchtime wee the other day, and even though they'd be asleep inside, their wee was quite dark.

I made up some baited water and they each had a good litre or two. An hour later, clear pale urine :D

You can bait your water with tinned tuna (not in brine as too salty), chicken stock, etc. You only need to add a bit to flavour the water. Today they've got mackerel in sunflower oil.

Also you can pop some ice cubes in their water for them to bob for, thus taking in fluid.

Roll on snowy weather :D

My 20 week old lab is not going for his usual walks while it's so hot. We wait until evening when the sun has gone down. He has the run of the garden all day but prefers to be sleeping on the wooden floors. He had his first ice cubes yesterday and spent ages "bobbing" for them. I had to keep topping them up.

We're having to walk our at 430 am to try and miss the heat of the day! Then straight in their paddling pool when we get home (me and the mutts LOL).

I've had to postpone their afternoon training session in the garden as its just horrendously hot. Hate this weather!

Yes its a pain especially as my lab is a water snob and only drinks from own bowl. We have spent most of our hot days in paddling pool or rivers or ponds on walks. Seems to help. He did go the beach on Tuesday and after playing madly with another dog drank a litre of water! Poor boy. Cooling down here tomorrow tho. :) hopefully less flies too!

I have evaporative coolers in the kennels and air con in the grooming room. :)

I had a EHO inspect during a heat wave a while ago and she commented on the dirty water in the dog's bowls. I pointed out the other bowls with clear water and the extra bowls in fact held chilled oxtail stock.
Ice lollies are well received. Chicken stock and mashed potato mixed to a mush & frozen in plastic cups. I pop them out for the dogs to lick.
