Keeping greys clean?!

Those of you who own greys, how do you do it? do you keep them clean as much as you can or do you just do a big clean for a shows? Are there any products that you would recomend for getting them nice and sparkly clean? Just curious as i find it a pain the the backside to keep my boys socks clean so the thought of a whole horse seems like quite a challenge!
 
absorbine show clean is one also the little blue bags you get from hardware are gr8 for white sock blue shampoo there are many shampoos out there but absorbine you leave on for 10mins then wash off
 
I am extremely fussy about keeping my grey boy clean all year round. At this time of year I will usually wash his tail about once a week with a gallop stain remover shampoo and he always gets sponged off if he's sweaty. But I find that if he wears a fly rug ( Which he does need as we have alot of the little buggers around) that plays a big part in keeping him clean generally. The secret is to wash it frequently!

In the winter he wears a full neck turnout rug and I try to wash his tail as often a possible weather permitting. Like my mother always said, if you have a good haircut and good shoes you can get away with the middle being a bit ragged!! lol

another vote for aerial actilift. also vanish soap on legs and tail. Then make up a chalk paste with chalk powder and a bit of water and paint it onto legs and back side. If you have grey tails, put it in a rubbish bag and tail bandage the top of it
 
ooh your boy does look lovely and clean! I'm also asking as I'm going to view a grey horse this weekend that I might be buying and I too don't like to be seen out on a dirty hoss :) i was once told that something like daz or washing powder is good for getting tails white, as long as you don't get it onto the skin, Has anyone else heard this?
 
Cowboy Magic Greenspot remover. :D I've just got some purple rinse shampoo from Boots to take the yellow stain out of her tail. Hopefully it will work. ;)

One big vote for NAF Wash & Show for Greys - most other shampoos seemed to take two goes on my old boy (proper white) but this sorts everything out easily first time. Gold Label and the like were useless on him.

New boy is darker and dappled - so granted hides it just that bit better - but did try Wahl Teatree on him on Monday as he's been a bit itchy and was very surprised at how well that shifted stains, especially given as it's not primarily marketed as a stainblaster.
 
Any suggestions for cleaning the grubbiest grey in the world that doesn't involve bathing?

My idiot is terrified of being bathed (she's 11 and really should know better but remains convinced she will melt if washed!!).

Her preference is to be covered from nose to tail in mud at all times.

She is having photos taken in a couple of weeks by an artist who is going to do her portrait for me and I'd really like her to be clean!!
 
TicTac your horse looks so much like my mums late event horse. He is SO stunning, there is nothing more breathtaking then a classy grey horse IMO.
When we had our greys (went through a stage when all we had was greys), they would get a tail wash every week to 2 weeks. In the winter when it was muddy their legs and tails would be rinsed of and dried every time they came in. They wore hoods.
In the summer it's much easier as they don't get that dirty when the ground is dry. They would be bathed before shows but other then that just brushed every day like any other coloured horse.
In the winter access to warm water makes a big difference and we would spot wash before shows.
Tbh you just get used to looking after a grey and I didn't really notice the extra effort. I always brushed every day and sponged off stable stains but I didn't really care if they weren't perfect White.

Well, my boy is a grey mud monster. If he comes in covered in mud, I cover with Show Sheen, and brush in the morning. Show Sheen loosens the muck
 
Cowboy magic is great, especially on summer coats or clipped horses, but I wipe it off with an old flannel dipped in hot water and rinsed out frequently - much better than a sponge.
Supreme Products blue crystals work well on tails, but you do need a couple of goes, and it's best to keep a white tail in a tail bag in the last few days before a show - even indoor school dust can stain it.
I wouldn't actually have another grey, gorgeous as my girly is, and if she produces a grey foal (fingers crossed she's pregnant!) it will be for sale!

Ironhorse - random question but were those photos taken at David Deptfords place?

Just thought I recognised the areana / background. I love his horses!
