Does anyone have any ideas please?

Horse is not on box rest so is out about 10 hrs per day. He is so bored - does anyone have any ideas what I could do to keep him occupied? Can't go for walks out of yard really due to hard and stoney ground.

Thanks

Have you tried hanging up vegetables? On a thread were Barney&Buzz's horse was bored and they wanted to know if there was anything more than swedes you could hang up to entertain your horse (http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=602155), I replied with a list of vegetables horses can eat/that you can hang up:

Apples, banana (with or without peel), beets, carrots, celery, lettuce, lemon, mango, melon, orange, parsnip, pears (forgot these on my list on the other thread), squash, swedes, turnip and watermelon (with or without rind).

I also posted a link to a thread that I think have some good tips about entertaining bored horses Coping for boxrest - advice and tips please!

Another reply on Barney&Buzz's thread was for example
Spit That Out said:
I used to hang a veg kebab which was a swede at the bottom, parsnip, carrot and apple.
Also hide a couple of carrots in his haynet...

But note, regardless if you try the radio or other things suggested on the boxrest thread, or the hanging vegetables, remember that what works for one horse, might not work at all for another. E.g. some horses doesn't seem to like when their food can swing around, sometimes maybe it just leads to that they really have to use their brain, other times maybe it is best to not continue with the hanging vegetables.

Hope you find something that works for your horse.

Give him a treat ball to kick around, hide treats in his haynet, teach him some easy tricks, spend time massaging or grooming, show him new things, like umbrellas, plastic bags, being hoovered, solutions are only as limited as your imagination, horses love learning and are very curious, use it to your advantage

Treats in Haynets worked for mine as did putting in a different stable where they can watch the goings on at the yard, always helps them if they are particularly nosey :-)

Our boy spent most of last year on box rest with steroid induced laminitis so we couldn't do the treat bit.My daughter made him a hanging coca cola bottle thing. He loved it was biting it and rubbing on it and occasionally the odd coke bottle would fly over the door which was funny ,
