how do you keep motivated for riding in winter. Ive not got a horse yet but am looking. Weekends wont be a problem in winter (depending on weather). Its just when its blummin cold at night and dark its a struggle (well it was last winter).

I will watch this with interest on suggestions lol im really struggling already, have hardly ridden since the clocks went back, I dont finish work till 5:30 and im up at stupid o'clock in the morning by the time I get to the yard im shattered!

Sure it will be fine once im in the routine of it! Winter yuk!!

Try to think happy thoughts whilst standing in the cold widdling rain waiting on them finishing eating..try to enjoy the lack of flies...meh clutching at straws here really. In reality I'm taking each day as it comes atm and trying not to stress out too much about the rubbish weather to come and the possibility of not making it twice a day to feed my boys...

Don't find it too difficult on days like today, sunny and no wind, but will be a different answer tomorrow with the wind and rain coming!! :D

When i found very depressing, i just thought of how much i'll really enjoy a hot bath when i get back, and get into my pjs, and sit with a hot brew, somehow it feels soo much better after a day at the yard getting cold and wet lol

In all honesty, I pay my YO to do the hard work mon-fri in winter...

My livery package includes TO, BI and muck out mon-fri so all I have to do is make up haynets and feeds, and ride. I find it so much easier to stay motivated when I know I don't have to face mucking out as well when it's raining or freezing cold. I also have to try to have a plan of what I want to do each week and stick to it. There is nothing worse than feeling aimless.

I have lost motivation already and horses only been in at night for a month! Usually I dont get like this until about February so am a bit worried ! Was a really nice day today but just couldnt be bothered to ride, rest of week going to be horrible apparently weatherwise. Finding it hard to make myself even drive up to the yard.

im not finding it too bad. im keeping in mind that im training my mare plus me for hoprefully a great next year doing BD with her and my youngster.
I'm constantly on the go which is good for keeping warm but not so good as i managed to catch a cold! I am at uni mon, tues, thurs and friday. riding lesson at uni twice a week. Riding my mare on wed, thurs, fri, sat and sunday. working tues evening, wed morning, thurs morning and all saturday morning. plus riding one of my boss' horses on saturday (well i did for the first time last sat, not sure if it will be a reoccurance!)
plus i am trying to get my exmoor pony used to people and training her ready for backing next year when she is 3 and still looking after my 3 year old who is currently turned away but still comes in at night.

I am LOVING it though :D all the training is so fab!
BUT bring on 2011!!!!! :D
