Hi all, advice please! I am currently driving an old soft top car and I'm worrying about what would happen to my dog if I'm involved in a crash (actually, I'm a bit worried about what would happen to me if I had a crash!). The boot is too small for a cage and anyway, if someone hit me up the a**e I have a feeling the boot would crumple into nothing. I've been looking into doggy seatbelts/harnesses but they all have trigger clips or flimsy plastic buckles that wouldn't last 5 seconds in an accident. Has anyone seen anything better? The back seats in my car have lap belts only, so would have to be compatable with those. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
Lindsay.

not sure what you mean by trigger clips -me being thick im sure- but my doggy car harness has a metal clip that slots directly into the car's seatbelt holder s a regular seatbelt does. seems pretty robust to me. is this what you mean?
i can try to find you the brand of the one i use if its any help/

i have a very unsuitable for travelling dogs small two door car sports type car and have to put dog on back seat with harness on. it works pretty well. although i think the poor mutt's a bit cramped!

unless you have a car like a 4 x4 with a large boot area you can travel a dog in or can fit in a cage i think dog car harnesses are all that's available.

maybe another poster will come along and prove me wrong tho

Regular good quality harness and a good climbing carabiner will work.

I know i have had a decent one from Halfords before.

I saw this thing somewhere on here that was like a kids play tunnel looking thing that you secure to the back seat and the dog goes in like a crate.

I have this it's called a Pet tube, I got mine from www.doghaus.co.uk, it comes with straps, i clip mine round the head-rests in the back seat, however you do need a 4 door car so you can get them in and out, it has zips at either end.

I use a harness called a clixsafe ( i think thats the spellling) it just goes round him ike a normal harness then has a metal clip that goes straight into the seatbelt clicker.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look into all of them. Those of you that have a clixsafe, what are the fastenings like? All the harnesses I've looked at so far seem to have fairly flimsy buckles and I think they would just break in an accident.
Useful stuff, cheers guys!

I felt the same about the cheap harnesses you can buy in pet shops, plastic clips which break and no lining.
I found a site that has them on the front page, they made me up one as they don't as a rule sell them.I paid £25 for mine for a GSD, it has the same buckles and fittings as on my horse rugs, ALL METAL, no plastic and it is lined. It comes with a belt and metal clip to clip onto the seat belt in the car.
The site is www.unicornleather.co.uk I had a black and pink one made up for my girlie.

I have to say I did borrow one of those seat belt things from my friend because my dog wonders around the backs seats while I'm driving, it's really worrying if I have the windows open. Anyway, this didn't seem to do anything because my dog managed to get out of it(unless she's a clever dog?)
But what I have found that works is if I do up the seat belt, there is a hole ,on the metal thing that you push in (forgotten the name D: ), that is just big enough for the let to go through and I tie her lead there, that keeps her somewhat still. :)
Although that might not be any help.. Sorry.
