I am vey careful about the security of what I post but have now found that I cannot keep my photos as truly private. All my security settings are on friends only but photos are no longer an option. I had thought (stupidly) that I was safe but recently had a third party commenting on a photo of my horse. Nice lady, no issues but I would like to be able to post for family and friends and keep it private.

I am not sure either now, if someone else can see a photo I have posted or can access my bank of FBI photos.

Is there anything else I can do? Am I missing something?

I don't know the answer but will keep an eye on the answers too as I have noticed the same with my pictures. I set them to friends only and thought my profile is set as private as it can be, yet someone I do not particularly want to be in contact with sent me a text saying they'd seen my horse's pictures on facebook and described him quite clearly that it wasn't a bluff. They have never seen my horse in the flesh so could not know any other way what he looks like.

you need to change your settings to "friends only", and then under options take the tick out of "friends of those tagged" then the pic is only visible to your friends.

You've also got the option to "limit old posts" which will change their settings.

The limit old posts was useful but the first option doesn't work. I have everything set on friends only, I even pulled up a photo I had previously posted and that had the "friends only" box ticked yet others could see it who are NOT FB friends.

I went to FB help and this now seems to be that our photos are not treated as private. I did remember previous postings BUT had thought I still had the option to keep my photos private. Clearly not.
