Help!
Pony is 5 weeks post colic surgery and allowed to be out on pen rest. She is terrorising me with how good she feels.
She was in during day, in pen at night but its a short walk to her field and she was spending all her time in the air...
So then I had her out full time to try and get her to settle (she usually lives out).
But now when she sees me she hoods around, jumps the water bucket, broncs, spins, has the time of her life. Even jumped OUT of the pen whilst I was poo picking tonight.
No idea what to do with her! Don't really want to sedate every day as that will slow the gut.
Do I put her back on box rest for longer? But then, how long? She also box walks so still isn't staying still even in there! And can get quite stressy.
She is allowed field rest at 8 weeks post op. So do I wait until then? The wound has pretty well healed up from the outside but obviously the inside will take more time to heal. I'm worried she's going to compromise her healing with her being daft.
Part of me wants to put her out in full field (3 acres) with my quiet gelding and just let her be. She doesn't generally gallop around normally, though can have the odd fun 5 minutes.
Going to give the vet a call tomorrow...but vibes and hair dye (for the greys!!!) please!?
