Hi all

Just thinking ahead to winter (not sure why!) and thinking about my tack. With all the mud, how do you keep your saddle clean from the mud on the stirrup irons, other than washing the stirrup irons off with water? When the evenings get dark I find washing the stirrup irons off is not ideal. I've just seen stirrup bags but was not sure about them....any ideas?

Also, any tips on keeping tack clean in winter please let me know!

I was hoping there would be some kind of cheat to get rid of mud on the stirrup irons or covering them with a stirrup bag thing..those wipes sound good, I use that spray at the mo and that's fab but its the stirrup irons that are going to be messy. Does anyone use those waterproof saddle covers? Don't get me wrong I like cleaning my tack but trying to preserve it so it doesn't get muddy as its beautiful!

I keep my boots i ride in in the tack room and change into them just before i get on. get off and change out of them. nice clean stirrups.

There is a thing you can get to put your stirrups in, the name of which escapes me right now. Basically like oven gloves which to my mind would do the same job and be cheap. Top goes over the saddle, irons in the pockets.

I've also seen little fleece baggies to put over the stirrups, but didn't like the look of that.

Fantastic ideas, thank you :) glad I'm not the only one thinking of keeping tack clean. It's the rain we have just had made me think of winter, sorry it is too soon just preparing!
