Ok, I notice a lot of girls where tights etc under there jods to keep warm.
As a Male I dont think wearing tights would be ok, are there any Male products you can wear under your jodhpurs to keep you warm?

Thanks.
Nick

If your worried about being butch and manly, I can tell you that friends of mine in the Royal Marines quite happily wore tights when on active duty in very cold climates. Then again, they might have just done it cos they were Marines. Great guys every one of them, but as crazy as a box load of frogs.

I stay warm by wearing over trousers, but I don't mind the cold too much anyway.

For the gentlemen among you, my brothers bulk buy there thermals from places like millets or blacks, outdoors shops really, there often labelled as ski underlayers.

Apparantly you loose "man points" for tights!

Maybe you would feel more comfortable in Hold Ups Nick?

They don't all have lacy tops!

Seriously though, how about getting some Musto Snug Jods or Ariat Powerstretch tights. I think they are unisex.

I have the Musto ones and they are very warm.

Or just get some full chaps to wear over the top of jods - they keep the wind and rain out and do make a big difference. Plus for a man they have the added advantage of letting you pretend to be a cowboy rather than blushing as you remember that you have girly tights on under your jods.. ugh!

Yeah, suede full chaps, very manly, very warm, none of this girlie tights stuff!! Imagine if you fell off and got carted to casualty, they might have to cut your boots and jods off - then, the shame!!!!

It's when naughty people go into a bank with ballaclavas(sp) on and ask them for some money whilst holding a gun!

That is all you need to know on the subject

Nick, hold ups are stockings that don't need a garter - I don't think you'd want to wear them!

Ditto all the votes for thermal long johns, available from maket stalls and granny/grandad shops

Stuff fashion, you just don't care if you get cold enough!

Also get yourself a pair of chaps and pretend to be John Wayne.

They sell thermals at Aldi ATM. I got top and bottoms for £7.49

Have you tried layering and putting jeans over the top of your jodhs? You should be able to ride in jeans as long as you put socks over the bottom of them.

Nowt wrong with blokes wearing tights, how do you thing our local hunt stay warm

Its when you start wearing stockings it all gets a bit wrong

Tights are a waste of space compared to decent thermals. And I emphasise decent. Those Peter Storm ones are OK but limited. Look at Under Armour or Canterbury which are what most rugby players wear, or Nike / adidas which are the more footie oriented brands; all good stuff and you can get them in sports shops.

Runners tend to go with Helly Hansen, and then there are the brands that infest hill walkers / climbing shops such as North Face, Berghaus, et al.

All the above range from expensive to eye wateringly expensive, but are worth every penny. All the above are very thin.

I tend not to wear long johns, but when I do I wear silk (Patra) that are very effective. I tend to focus more on the core body and extremities and wear a Canterbury baselayer then a Rohan merino wool thermal layer.
