Its pretty cold out at the moment so I was looking for a new jacket. I have looked all over the internet but seem to find 'Summer/Spring 2009' which is no use at all - thousands of lightweight jackets, no real heavyduty, hooded jackets.

My only requirement is that it has a hood - a rare find as people who design these coats obviously enjoy getting soaked! It will be to walk the dogs/do the horse type jacket.

Pref. up to around £80. Can anyone reccomend such a coat?

Go to any outdoor shop and pick up something like a Berghaus in the sale. Wouldn't be without mine for the yard. I bought one with a detachable fleece and hood.

I got a Ski jacket for Xmas, never going Skiing but I wanted it to keep me warm on the yard, it's so, so warm (and it has a hood

If it's a riding coat you're after - Musto do some great winter riding wear. A yard coat doesn't need darts though......

my Hoggs Waxed jacket with hood and quilted liner is fabulously warm for the field in a blizzard and hailstones (today). Warmer and cheaper, softer and snugglyer than a Barbour and almost comes down to my knees. And it only cost £43.00.
I can never find a good really warm waterproof riding jacket that keeps your legs try too but have the reflective yellow Shires Riding jacket that everyone is wearing and thats doing a great job. Hood will go over a riding hat too. £47.00 of ebay plus postage
