Keiffer dressage saddles.... any good for novice??

Am new to all this dressage stuff but really want to give it a good go as I kinda find it rewarding when things go well.

A saddler has given me a 2nd Keiffer Wien DL to try out and wants £350 for it.

I haven't sat in it yet but I do need a saddle that sits me in the right place.......... is this it.

I like Kieffers - loved the Action & Lech Profi I rode in but ended up wth a Barnsby
 
I have a Kieffer action which I love. They don't come up second hand very often, which either means not many are sold over here, or when they are bought, people hang on to them....
 
Or that they're more often called the Kieffer Berlin over here

Dislike them. Not great for the horse (they still make them with long tree points) and also they can "pinch" behind the shoulder. Depends on the horse shape, and your shape though!!

Very few make with short points still...Bransby do, as do Passier. Stubben, Albion & Kieffer are all quite long.
 
Barnsby are short, as are Ideal, Albion WB tree, Passier and of course Wow saddles! Stubben are notorious for long points. Long points where possible should be steered away from on the "modern" large shouldered horses.
 
OH has one for his mare and he is a novice when it comes to dressage - he loves it.

However, as mentioned above - they don't fit my lad as the points are too long - he is better in a Barnsby.

Suggest getting a saddler to check it on your horse before you take the plunge
 
I rode in one for years but doesn't fit current horse. Took it to saddlery shop to trade in off Prestige, was amazed how heavy it was, at least 3 times heavier than Prestige. Also over the years flocking had got as hard as a rock, be careful buying a 2nd hand as may be the same.
 
My saddler told us the other week that Kieffers when made aren't hand stuffed like most other makes so they do have a tendency to be uneven as machine doesn't check.

I'm sure my lad who doesn't do long points would love to be called modern type
