Kemp controller £16 VS ebay £3.99

I used a kemp controller but it did nothing except mark my cobs nose! I find the dually headcollar works far better.
 
not unusual to get big price differences, although this one is rather bigger difference than usual

Personally I would use a normal pressure halter and teach horse how to react to it.

IMO when leading nose pressure is better for horses that run off not plant, for planting you need poll pressure

big markup when buying direct from manufacturer? or am i missing something here!

Ps. anyone used a kemp controller before for training a horse which plants now and again?

I have used the Kemp Controller and it is fab. I know Sam Kemp the designer VERY well and the price deference is because they are now being made in the UK with GB products. You will no longer be able to purchase a cheap and nasty one that is made via Shires in China, with clips that bust. The (rope part) is now thicker and will NOT rub the nose. You pay for quality basically. These cheap ones are just Shires stock being sold off cheaply for a £1.25 to trade and then they sell them for £ whatever as long as not a loss. As of March 2011 you will only beable to purchase from Sam direct!.

The new UK made one Will not rub your horses nose. I know Sam really well. Shires made them and they are nasty and rubbish.
Please try the new one.It will not disappoint you.

Cheap price is due to Shires getting rid of there stock to saddleries and trade and market has been flooded, but these K.C are cheap and nasty. I know Sam Kemp the designer really well and you will not be able to buy the shires cheap yuk ones as of March. The higher price of £16 is due to quality and strength being vastly improved and made in the UK with GB products. "you get what you pay for"

The Dually is £40 for each Pony, cob, full the K.C is now £16, quality and fits all three sizes. I know which one I would have on my yard!

ps. I have used on horses that wont load, that rear, that tank off and it has sorted them out including stallions and a 18hh but not a horse that plants their feet like a mule. It does give nose and poll pressure to control. try it for £16 surely its worth a go... if not try a bucket of water chucked from behind up its arse!! LOL
 
I suppose the cheap ones are a way of finding out whether or not it will work for you. I'm not sure that Sam Kemp would be happy about it being pointed out just how 'cheap and nasty' the cheaper ones are though, they still carry the Kemp name! Surely it would be better to just point out that they are old stock that are being cleared to make way for a new design! I know I wouldn't be happy about someone who 'knows me well' saying on a public forum how cr*p my original design was!!

I don't think the OP was criticising sam kemp but was criticising the manufacturer and shires.the way I read it was OP had nothing but praise for sam kemp and her product and was pointing out that it wasn't the fault of sam but of makers.
 
Oh blast I forgot~Price does include postage and packaging which is £2.25 cost! ta. £16 for being safe when leading a horse/pony that hasn't been trained correctly. The Kemp Controller is perfect for young stock as no harsh, cold bit in the mouth before they are old enough to be broken and will be taught from the start how to behave which will last for their life time. Many customers have commented that it retrains the horse completely of some vices for good. It is becoming as important on a large/livery/professional/training yard as a twitch is for potiental everyday use.

I use a Kemp Controller as my mare plants herself occasionally. Its the only thing that will get her to move forwards when she does it, Tight circles, knocking off balance, goings backwards, tried it all and nothing else works apart from the Kemp Controller. I paid £7.99 for mine from my local tack/horse shop and its great and doesnt rub or mark her nose.

Not a crap original design it won an award for innovation and 'design'. You are correct it is a case of old stock that is being cleared to make way for the new stronger GB made but the design is the same. There is NO need to change the design. It is the quality of the clips and being made in China that make the Shires one 'cheap and nasty' not the design.
 
Well i went for the £3.99 ebay one, be rude not to for that price. As its based on original kemp controller which won awards I figure its a good starting point to see what effect it has.

£16 seems a bit steep as final RRP for new kemp controller, £10 as a permanent price would seem far more reasonable to me whilst still retaining good profit margins :)
 
i can't see them being illegal, just old stock. Plenty of old stock in all markets which have been superceded with improved products.

lol perhaps not, I have no idea about the legalities of selling things and contracts. But I meant as they not on their site, as contracts ended, trying get remainder out the back door through ebay lol .
 
Agree with the comment above about them looking v easy to make (possibly how designer discovered they work?).

Have to say though that for your own horse ground work must be a better option. It looks as though this basically works by applying pressure that restricts breathing (not saying any horses are being strangled here y any means mind!). Good training alwsys better than picking a fight you couldn't win if it was fair where you have the option.
 
This purchase was to help with planting in particular at certain points on walks in hand where there is food around. Passing hay bales, duck ponds where he see.s people throwing bread etc lol.

Hoping the Kemp would apply the pressure needed to walk on then release as he does so to learn not to plant.
