I am getting Ken Lyndon Dykes out to check my existing synthetic saddle and hopefully get a leather dressage saddle courtesy of bf.

Just wanted to know if anyone had used him before? Were u happy/Not

Also really appreciate any advise on decent dressage saddles.
Budget £900
Horse 16.2 5yrs high withers, big shoulders. Little skinny.

I'd put money on it that he trys to sell you a Kieffer! Worth having a look online at the different types/costs of the K's he's a fan of them and will offer you one if he can or at least he always used to.

Ah good to know I have been duped in the past into getting a saddle I don't want under the pretence that it fits the horse properly.

Never tried Kieffer but think they may be out of my price range.

Did the saddle you got fit the horse properly?

I have not used him personally but have used a couple of his saddle fitters and they have been brilliant. Very thorough fitters.

I used him approx 13 years ago and he fitted a v quirky TB that was a bit cld backed perfectly- in fact my horse never bucked once in it! I actually contacted him last month and he may come out in the new year to fit a horse of mine with a new saddle, one of my horses is similar to yours and he suggested some makes and Kieffer was one of them. I know some people swear by him and some don't but I feel that he really knows his stuff and his knowledge of horses backs, their movement etc and saddles is very good and I would still feel confident in having him personally fit a new saddle. Think the Kieffers are around £1200. Gd Luck

I had ken out a couple of times, first time was about 7 years ago when i wanted a jumping saddle for my pony and he was really good i was desperate for a john whitaker or a pessoa but neither fitted my pony particularly well so he wouldn't sell them to me! He found one that fitted her perfectly which was very nice and said thats the only one that fits her properly so thats the one i could have!

Then that saddle was stolen so he came out to her again and i had a choice of 2 all fine, but my mum's pony is very difficult to fit he has no shoulders and all saddles slip on him and ken came out a couple of times and had a few saddles on trial but in the end i think he gave up a bit!! saying that the pony still doesnt have a saddle to fit him properly after 4 different saddlers!

Have used him years ago to get a couple of pessoas and then subsequently one of his saddle fitters, echo what everyone else says, very thorough but yes, he did like a kieffer!!! (although that was about 10 years ago so his preference may have changed!!)

I had him out this tuesday to fit a dressage saddle for my boy. He's a 17.2 high withered horse but a medium wide saddle fitting.

He fitted my original saddle two years ago and I've been impressed with that one so called him out again when I wanted a dressage saddle.

My budget was just slightly less than yours. I took some pictures of my horse and the existing saddle sitting on him and told him the make so he could get an idea of fit and size prior to comming.

He then came out with 10 saddles and as it happens the first one that he put on fitted the best and then when I tried to ride in it was perfect so I didn't even bother trying the other possibilitys.

The saddle I think is a saddleworld own make - but a second hand one.

If I was buying another saddle I would use him again.

If you haven't me him before then I would class him as a character! but knows his stuff

Brilliant that has put my mind at rest.
my horse is quite sensitive and still young so its important to get it right, I didn't think much of my previous fitter.

As far as the Kieffer, well if he wants to sort me out one for under £900 that's ok with me.

Thank you all for your help.

A friend used him and he told her her new ponies saddle didnt fit at all was told her it should never have even been put on the ponies back.... new owner told the old owner they didnt want the saddle with the pony and told him what has been said.....

Old owner actually had HIM fit the saddle only 6 months before and prouded document to prove it!!!!!!

Needless to say that totally put me off - well the company he work at in general ( another person from there missed a broken tree on 3 occasions despite my horse being very sore ). Cost be a bomb in chiro bills and a new saddle from my current saddler.
