As some on here know, I am considering having a litter from Evie next year. With this in mind I decided to register with the above scheme, so that (assuming I pass of course) my name will be on the approved list for my area for the next 6 months and I will get an idea of interest in any puppies.
Have just had a letter back from them, saying they will only look at my application when I submit a litter registration. I phoned and explained my reasoning for the early application but they wouldn't budge, though assured me that providing I was accepted all future litters would be listed before birth. I explained I possibly would only have the one litter, and was then told it probably wasn't worth me registering as an AB then. Is it just me or does this seem totally crazy ?

You know my Chloe? With the hip dysplasia, unplanned pregnancy, etc etc etc? They were accredited!! IMO it's worth nothing.

Can you not put feelers out in local farm shops etc? My lady who bred bracken hasn't advertised once. Xx

They got a lot of stick for allowing first time breeders on the scheme prior to even having bred a litter,so they put that right. Personally I think it is too lax now, mainly because I believe every puppy should be I. D `ed by it`s breeder, and they don`t insist on even that. I feel a responsible safety net for every puppy you have bred is key to being a good breeder, obviously the KC disagrees.

They knew I wasn't a first time breeder, they already had my affix, knew how many litters I had bred, how many dogs with stud book numbers etc. I agree the scheme has lots of faults, e.g. dogs have to be hip scored but don't have to have a low score, just thought it was sensible to see what interest there was and thought hopefully people would research through the kc rather than just look at random ads. I have never had to advertise in the past, always sold through word of mouth etc, but as it is nearly 11 years since I last bred a litter I have been sending people elsewhere for years. :(

Mental. People want health tested, as many guarantees as possible type dogs and they'd think the KC would give that and yet they put obstacles in your way at every turn. I just don't understand them. :(
