Kennel Cough - How to Soothe

Last night my little man chocked on a biscuit, he was coughing all night and all day. We went to the vets this afternoon (he didn't want to cough at all) and they have given him some antibiotics just in case some biscuit went into his lungs and also some antinflamatories for an irritated trachea. However just as we were leaving he started his cough (at last), the vet now thinks he is showing signs of kennel cough! Still take the tablets as it could be two problems.

Anyway the reason I'm posting is that regardless of wether its an irritated trachea or kennel cough I feel like I should be doing something to soothe it. I would if it was my throat. So does anyone have any experience with this or any ideas/suggestions?

Any help is much appreciated he is clearly uncomfortable and I feel useless :(

Honey lemon and glycerine? My friends dog had kennel cough and she syringed it into his mouth.
I never really know if I works but I give it to my horses if they get a cough also.

I've only ever given mine honey for kennel cough - they have never been bad enough to warrant antibiotics (which are useless against kennel cough anyway as it is viral) but they love licking honey off a teaspoon :)

Yea the antibiotics are in case he inhaled biscuit into his lungs. They did say that they wouldn't help the Kennel Cough. I just gave him a a bowl with some warm honey, he's not keen but is gradually drinking it. Mainly because he doesn't want his brother stealing it!! Thanks :D
