Dog is coughing and although Ive never known a dog with kc before, think it probably is, its been around locally fairly recently. She hasnt had a jab because as I was on chemo when I took her several months ago vet said it is a live virus and they dont recommend it. Im on chemo now and having a bit of a panic can I actually catch it from her ?

in normal situations it is extremely rare for a healthy human to catch kennel cough from their dog...
however,if your dog does have kennel cough, and you are immune compromised, then yes you can catch this illness from your dog.
Iwould definitely get the dog diagnosed and take precautions for your health.ASAP.
Definitely wear a mask around the dog, avoid close contact when he’s showing symptoms and perhaps get someone to stay with you so you can even isolate from the dog for the time she takes to recover.
You won’t be able to send him to anyone who has other dogs as it’s so transmissible .

I hope,it’s not kennel cough,as you’ve got enough on your plate without this worry as well.

Ooer, thanks. Not possible for anyone to come in and stay, Ill just have to take my chances, only had chemo on Thursday!
She was with a crowd of dogs last Monday and some of them had it about 2 months ago, I hope she hasnt given back to them.
She does like to sneeze on me in bed in the mornings, so I think Im b***ered!

If you can avoid letting her close enough to breathe into your face it’s really a good step..can she stay off the bed whilst she’s ill?
Its an airborne disease,so you must not let her cough or sneeze into your face. The mask would really help for example. Also wash your hands after handling her..Don’t have her on your knee for the period she’s coughing etc..
Id take this seriously,it doesn’t take too long for the dog to recover and you must keep yourself safe .

PL why not get a crate by your bed if she is used to sleeping close to you, but that way she can't sneeze or cough on you.
