Friend has just taken posession of a rescue terrier. Dear little boy that he is. He's been through police kennels, then through dog home kennels, so he's been about a bit.

2 days after he arrived he started to cough, dry, hacking cough, followed by wretching, but no sick. He was taken straight to the vet who didn't seem to think it was kennel cough and that he'd eaten something rough and it scratched his throat. He got pills and we all went homw.

within the week the other terrier was coughing, plus the lurcher and my two sheepdogs are all coughing.

Could it be kennel cough and the vet misdiagnosed the first one?

They all went to the vets and saw other vets at the practice who have treated them.

Sounds like it could be, I believe it is quite hard to diagnose though. It usually only lasts about 2 weeks, but I would maybe pop them back to vets for check-up, or just ring vet and explain to him, he may be able to give you some advice over the phone. Oh and obviously keep them away from other dogs for now.

it sounds like our houses have been taken over by a bunch of chain smoking old men!

All you hear is hack, hack, hack.

They have all been given lovelly little pills! Some are keener than others to take them. But a little bit of ham or cheese does the trick!

Sounds like cough. It generally takes 2 weeks to show signs of them having it. Could of been a simple mistake at the vets. They usually get it from being kennels & this little might seems to have been from pilar to post recently. Try & keep them calm no exercise as it damages the lungs. Also is highly contagious you can pass it on your clothes so avoid other dogs.

Good luck in speedy recover & you could always buy some ear plugs!!

My pup had this, at first thought was "PANIC KENNEL COUGH!" he was only 13 weeks old then as was quite poorly but he recovered well and had no effects of it.

It was as what you described and i took him to vets who gave him pills and within few days it cleared up but vet did say keep him away from other dogs for while, little lead walks, no huffing puffing run about, but it was too late for his Doggy Friends who he sees on daily bais before i took him to vets... 2 of them had it too... it wasn't kennel cough, just bit of common cold like we do have!

Speedy recovery....

my dog got it when she came from the rescue place.
She had a really snotty nose aswell. the rescue home said to just give her childrens dry cough medicine, cleared up pretty much straight away.

hope they get better soon... it isn't very pleasant

No exercise!....try telling that to two working sheepdogs!

Even if there are no sheep to boss about they will make up their own amusement,

The old bitch has taken to guarding the road, we get maybe 10 cars a day past, but she stands in the middle of the road and stares down any passing car if we don't notice.

Neighbours are used to her, tourists can be a bit bemused!

Just had a bit of a laugh at the poor daogs expense! sorry.

But I was speaking to my son when both dogs joined us......it sounded like a steam train leaving the station, one dog after the other, poor things!

They are quite well in them selves though
