My younger dog started coughing last night and bringing up bits of white froth. She is well in herself and eating ok. I have started her on Benylin, any other suggestions? Obviously I am not taking her out much to her disgust.

Honey, ideally manuka, is good. As long as she is well in herself I wouldn't worry too much. It's interesting that despite there being no dog shows, and fewer dogs in kennels due to people not having holidays, there seems to have been a lot of kennel cough around in recent months.

Mine was actually at her first agility show on Sunday since Feb 2020. She must have already been incubating it as time line too short for her to have caught it there. We weren't mixing with other dogs either thankfully. I can only assume it was one of the dogs that are walked past our field. Will never know so irrelevant. Main thing is that she gets better quickly.

If there’s any possibility it could be lungworm I’d speak to your vet today to start the worming programme (not all wormers are effective against lungworm). Apologies if you know this already, but left untreated lungworm can be fatal.

I am about as certain as anyone can be that this is kennel cough. It is a throat cough rather than a lung cough if that makes sense. Have had dogs with it before and it is pretty unmistakeable. Vet confirmed today that there is a lot of it around at the moment. I don't vaccinate against it but I wonder if a lot of people who normally would couldn't last year with all the restrictions. Thankfully my other dog isn't showing any signs (yet!) and nor is my sister's dog that mine normally have daily contact with. I have two very depressed dogs who can't understand why I am not taking them out and my sister's dog is depressed because she isn't seeing her mates.
