Kent and Masters as a jumping saddle

OP, this might sound a bit odd, but when you say your GP cracks you up the ass, what exactly do you mean - does the back end lift over the jump or something? (Just curious as I've never had that experience haha!)

I have the K&M cob GP as this gives my horse a bit more shoulder room and I prefer the square cantel. I use it for jumping and XC. However, my horse is in his 20s now and we don't really jump any higher than say 90cm. I have had him years so find I am happy enough to jump in this saddle but if I wanted to do any serious jumping then I would like a bit more knee roll.

Are you specifically wanting a leather saddle? Just noted that you said you had a Wintec. I have just bought a Wintec 500 Wide for my youngster as I wanted an adjustable saddle as he's growing and, quite frankly I don't have the finances to fork out for a more expensive saddle! Lol. I noticed they do a close contact jumping saddle in the range though which I assume would be the same as the Bates jumping saddle? Obviously if you're wanting leather then this isn't an option but if you're not fussed then it could be worthwhile looking at.

sorry but i detested mine :( .

This.

If you are just looking for something cheap and cheerful to tide you over, consider saddle company.

Especially for a youngster as they are super lightweight, kind on there backs, and can be adjusted to fit anything, literally , not just a case of having a choice of gullets, the fitter comes out, puts it on a metal clamp, and bends it to the contours of your horse. Most Saddle company fitters only charge about 25 too.

Definatley have a look

TS- I keep looking for Barnsbys about the place but never find anything flat enough looking. Or I haven't yet anyway.

The Barnsby Milton is pretty flat with minimal blocks. I used to event on a Devoucoux Chiberta and swopped more than happily onto the Milton, only chopped it in as sold the horse it was bought but still have a Barnsby.

Hello y'all. I don't know where this cropped up from again but fear not, all is sorted.

I have just bought myself a seriously beautiful Prestige. And it was brand new. Ouch. But that is because it is also a 16'' seat because my horse is a midget and I'd have been waiting forever to find something that size second hand!

Annoyingly my 17'' Frank Baines (which I love, did I say that already?!) fit her really well apart from the fact it was too long. Saddler and I agreed that on many horses we would live with it but as mine does get tight when she is in season it might be better not to sit on her ovaries  Should have bought a gelding!

It is lovely and it cost more than my horse but I am happy :D

I mean that it isn't a flat seat at all, quite the opposite infact-it is quite deep, so when I push my bum out behind me over a fence, if my horse is extravagant behind, I get the cantle up my backside. Which is uncomfortable and makes it hard to jump properly! That's why jumping saddles have flat seats. I don't know if I fling myself about a particularly large amount but I do like a flat seat on a jumping saddle!! :D

Haha thanks Jesstickle! I know jump saddles have flat seats to make it easier to get in position over a fence, just hadn't really thought about the potential for those of the deeper variety to spank me mid-air!!!

I probably just have a fat ass to be honest. ;) :D

We tried the mono flap version today and were not massive fans, going to try the S series Jump tomorrow. It appeals as its adjustable and our mare is still changing shape. We currently have that elusive Albion 5000 xc and love it but is just doesnt fit the mare anymore.

Hello,
If you are looking at s-series jump saddles I have one that I bought last may that sadly no longer fits my horse for sale. Brown 17.5" with adjustable gullet (I think it has the navy bar in at the minute) , can send pictures if you are interested?
