Hi, had to call saddle fitter out as big lads saddle was not right, gullet wobbly, Lordy, it was clear snapped in half!! Only had saddle two years, it's not been stood on or mis used, the saddle fitter said that k& m had problems with faulty gullet few years back, do you think I stand any chance of getting them to give me back the price of the new replacement I had done today? Or am I wasting my time, I could not wait and send back to manufactures as that would have cost a lot and take weeks. The saddler who sold it to me two yr ago could not come out for 5 weeks, so I had to get this other man, but he was v v good and came out in just a week.

Strawberries and cream for reading!

As tamsinkb has said try it.
I usually have a 5 year guarantee on all saddle trees I have used (from the tree makers) so you should be lucky, especially if there is no visual evidence of damage to the head or gullet, like if the horse rolled on the saddle when tacked up, that's what quite often has broken a tree that has come into my workshop in the past. If no damage to the seat hide over the head then you may be able to get the tree replaced via K & M, depends on their level of customer service!

I suppose that you can give it a go, but in the manufacturers defence, they will rightly say that they have no knowledge of the intervening 2 years, and cannot be held responsible for the fact that a tree has now broken.

If as I suspect, they dismiss your claim, it would be possible to place steel plates over the break, they need to extend from the head to almost the cantle, but they will be undetectable, if it's done properly, and your saddle will be as good as new, just about. I've done several, and it works.

Ok I am confused. Are you talking about the adjustable gullets that cost about £20 and you can quite easily take out and put in yourself? Surely that hasn't snapped in half they are really strong and solid! Crikey, how did that break?
I think that it is very unlikely that the manufacturers will be interested in replacing that as it will be hard to prove that they are at fault.

I too was assuming you meant the gullet bar?? Surprised it broke in half if so,but they do rust after a time so perhaps for some reason it corroded quicker than usual and has broken as a result of weakness from that??

I would certainly e mail K&M,as it such a small amount if money they will prob replace as a goodwill gesture.

If you do actually mean the tree then I would certainly be discussing with K&M!!

hello! Ive had k&m cob saddle replaced which had a twisted tree altough the company said it was thw gullet bar however when I explained further to the company I bought it from that I had previously changed the gullet bar and the problem remained they then exchanged the saddle without a problem. I never got A explanaton as the what fault they found but it was defo twisted. They are supposed to be a bad company to deal with but I got good customer service and I think it best to ask as I didnt event show a reciept of purchase xx
