Hi folks i really like the look of this saddle .. I am looking for your experiences of it or can anyone recommend anything similar?? Its to fit a rising 5 Welsh sec d.. Thanks x

I have a GFS haflinger exchange for mine, I really like it, tried a thorowgood once never got further than sitting on it felt like I was doing the splits.

Webble can i ask why??

Can't speak for webble but I know why I prefer mine,less cleaning:p:D

I have a T4 cob for my section D,and love it.Is a great fit, comfy to ride in and adjustable for those times when that typical good doer waistline expands:rolleyes:

I love them so much i have one for each of my horses.Very versatile and well made IMO.

Would assume the kent and masters is the same just in leather??

I sold my T4 Cob saddle because it was too hard on my (amply-covered, sadly) bottie!! And rather luckily, it didn't fit my cob very well either so I was able to let it go with a clear conscience!!

cheapest I've seen the gfs haflinger for is £850 but for me, it's much better than the thorowgood, I've not seen a kent and masters but as I understand it they are leather versions of the thorowgood?

I've got a K & M S Series dressage saddle for our HW coloured show cob type. Great as I can go up a gullet size in summer. Sits nicely balanced on her back and with being straight cut doesn't interfere with her shoulder. Not a top quality made saddle but ok for everyday use and perhaps local showing. Paid £450 for mine in almost new condition.

I posted the same as above comms only today on another thread. My Kent and Masters is lovely but tips me forward!
A saddler I mentioned it too said it was a fairly common problem and was solved by going up a half inch seat size (if ok for the horse obviously!)

I have a K&M cob and I really like it. I like the square cantle for extra space and the seat and knee pads are comfy. It fits my horse well after a bit of faffing with the saddle fitter but I still use a Stephens gel pad underneath with numnah over it and with that it is pretty near perfect. I just find the saddle slips round otherwise when I try to get on (my horse is a haflinger) but I think it is as good as any saddle will be now :-)

I am pretty pleased with the quality of it and it being adjustable. They also have a reasonable resale value.

Beware it might take a while to actually get the saddle! My saddle fitter ordered it and it took almost 9 weeks (admittedly Christmas in between) when they told me 3-4 because it was being made at K&M, so make sure you confirm if it is actually in stock or not.

Any saddle that tips you forwards is generally unbalanced and will be putting more weight through the front of the tree than is ideal. It's hard to flock the front of the TG up to keep it in balance on some horses.

On the tricky fits the synthetic trees are just not as stable in my experience, I fit wooden treed saddles mainly to natives and cobs, and do adjust them a handful of times, but they are not adjustable infinitely and are out of your budget I'm afraid, as are many English bench made brands, though only by a bit.

If its a straightforwards D to fit you may be fine :)
