Hi there

I am looking to get a Kent and Masters cob gp for my young cob, what are your thoughts on them? Are they good quality? How do they wear? How long have you had yours?

Thanks

I have the High Wither GP version for my TB and I've really liked it. I bought it second hand and it's still in really good condition. Horse has changed shape quite drastically so I'm going to have to sell it.

My mum had the cob GP version and again really liked it. Her horse has (finally) lost weight and is muscling up so the tree & panels no longer fit so she's selling hers too.

I would get one again should horses change shape to fit that tree again.

I've had one for about 4 years now and I really rate it. It still looks good and the gullet is easy to change.

I bought a new GP Cob one about 4 weeks ago so still settling but its nice and comfortable on long hacks.

I got a new one about 2 years ago and am pleased with it. However beware, when I bought it I just assumed it would fit my mare as she changed, filled out etc because of the adjustable gullet. Got saddler out to check it and she said it probably wouldn't fit her in a year or so, even with a new gullet because the shape would still be wrong. I've forgotten exactly what she said but I'm a bit disappointed!

I have a HW GP version, bought for my cobby 14.2hh, but after he was PTS its now used on my 4 YO Lippy, i have had it for 5 years nearly and it still looks great, i find it very comfortable.

I have a cob dressage and cob gp. I've had them for four or five years now and I'm very pleased with them. Mine have worn very well and still look like new but I know there was a problem with the leather at one point.
The widest gullet really distorts the saddle, so if you think your horse may get that wide I would be very careful.

I bought one for my boy five years ago - it has worn really well and still fits him. Leather is in nice condition (I have taken care of it) and it is still comfy.

One of my liveries has one and it's great for the horse but it has a really big step up between the pommel and the stirrup bar flap. This makes it painful for me and I have to use a seat saver when I ride in it.

I have a GP one for my horse, it came with her so I don't know how old it is but I have been riding in it since 2012. I feel it is quite comfortable for us both, I get her saddle fit checked once or twice a year (depending on how much her shape changes) and it seems easy to adjust. I am not the greatest cleaner of tack either and I have to say it still scrubs up beautifully and looks very smart.

I have a GPD and a (GPH?), one is 17", the other 17.5", both adjustable gullets. The smaller one fits either horse, the bigger one fits only the bigger horse (width is same in both saddles but smaller horse has shorter back length).
One is a year old, the other 6 months.
Very pleased with them, lovely comfy soft seats, a pleasure to sit in, stirrup leathers hang at the right point, easy to slide stirrup leathers on/off the bars, leather and stitching look to be good quality so far. I do keep fleece saddle covers on them when not in use, and I clean/salve them with HorsemansOneStep which I rub in sparingly by hand (it's a nice hand cream too!).
Both horses go really well in them and they are also very lightweight compared to my old wooden-treed leather saddle.

Gosh think I may be the only negative review! I searched high and low to try a high withered version, travelled a fair distance and was a bit dissapointed with the quality when I finally seen it. It was alomost new but when I looked closely I could see metal clips, like staples which held it together, the leather on the seat looked to me like it was thin and could easily mark, sort of wrinkly and I just thought I'd be better off spending my £595 on a second hand better quality saddle. To be fair they arent massively expensive new as far as saddles go so Im probably being a bit harsh.

I have the S-series jump, and the dressage. absolutely love them, and fit my boy so well- he has quite big shoulders so hard finding ones to fit. Highly recommend :)

My mare has a high wither VSD as it was the ONLY thing that fitted her. Probably about 2 years old now and still looks good (even though I haven't looked after it very well, naughty!) I hate riding in it, it's ok for schooling but longer hacks is uncomfortable. Also think it's a bit cheapy looking (maybe I'm being a snob) especially underneath saddle flaps. Does the job though and I put up with it because it suits my mare

I tried the S-series jump and it was a really nice saddle to ride in, but I thought it looked a bit cheap and ugly :o didn't like the "synthetic style" under the saddle, if that makes sense. I found it bulky but I imaged that was because it was new and not "bedded down/ worn in" . My friend has a kent and masters dressage saddle and that is nice to ride in, looks better than the jumping saddle.

I bought one last year as it was the best fit available. I like it...unfortunately when we first came to our new yard I put it over the stable door, and the youngster in the next stable also liked it and nibbled one of the girth straps! Find it comfy on hacks, etc.
