Had a job to get the stable doors open this morning as the snow had drifted against them even though there is an overhang. Cleared it all and now its been snowing heavily again for about the last 2 hours. I can barely see the horses out in the field next to the house as the snow is coming down so heavily. I'll have to go and get them in soon, they dont look happy

Pointless post, but just need to hear from others in the same boat (cling together in a storm and all that

YES, YES, YES! It hasn’t stopped here all day long. I’m just really peaed off with it now. Got to get to Mum and Dad’s later to do the horses, thank god my OH has an old Defender to get us around. I’m too worried I’ll crash my Jeep.

My yard is in Biggin Hill and I am in Despair..... my water pipe's frozen at the yard and now my outside tap at home is too, so I have to fill buckets at my kitchen sink, decant into drums, load up Disco, take to yard... I'm starting to feel slightly unappreciated as I have 5 DIY's who have not offered to bring water for their own horses or even said thanks. I am off work with a bad back at the moment so not too happy about it all.

Sorry for the whinge, folks!

Im with Jo as well totally p'd off with it now, have about 8 inches and we are on the edge of the North Downs so they have forecast more later..all mine are out with haylage and seem happy but its reduced time for them and have had to dig out the stable toys!!!...mucking out takes ages longer and even moving a bit of haylage in a barrow is a task...bring on the Spring pleaseeeeeeeeeeee...

Yes! Haven't been able to get to yard since last sunday! (Fortunatley - shared horse, and owner lives closer)

I am going a bit stir crazy, can't get my car off the drive, about 9" snow and its beeen adding to it all morning.

I am used to having horses at yards i can walk to in this kind of situation, so this is coming a bit hard to me!

Am getting bad withdrawal symptoms!!

Why, oh why does everything take so long.... even though my bad back is slowing me down, why does my 50 minute morning yard take nearly three hours? Is it just me?

No chris it aint just you!!!..my yard of 7 normally takes me 2 hours from start to finish, today by the time I had rugged with layers and minced each one out , put haylage and mucked out it was nearly double.arghhhh...just watching weather now as think I will need to go and start pulling them in pretty soon if Kent already has it then the snow is heading our way....take care x

Yes is dreadful here, i live pretty high and suspect will get drifting, just topped up wiith feed and got so readigrass as im sure they are missing the grass. Got my 2 out for an hour each this morning before it got worse at least they had a leg stretch. Can someone make the snow go away please.

Oh sooo yes yes yes!!!! This is just not funny and so much work. I can't drive at the mo due to health probs so unless I get a lift I have to walk everywhere, I'm so tired!
Unitl the beginning of this week we'd got off relatively lightly but that all gone for a burton and we're covered in revolting white stuff!

Get over yourselves, you soft southerners! In mid Wales we have been in this situation since the 18th Dec, and were very amused to see that the weather only recently became headline news when it hit the south-east!!!

I'm Lucky. we have but a mere dusting here and while there is snow on the ground it is not much. I do feel for you guys. I know that if we ever get really bad weather here, everybody else has it twice as bad. ((((((((((((( Hugs))))))))))))))) all round xx

lol, funnily enough I know all about the mid wales snow, I went to my Mum's at Christmas and she lives up a mountain, last house up an unmade track. Had to park at the bottom of the mountain and climb up in the dark with the turkey, christmas pud, trifle, champagne, bags etc. Actually it was one of the funniest things, I was crying I was laughing so much - you took one step forward and then slid off down the mountain again

She lives near Tregaron in mid wales, where are you?

Put mine out today and it was knee deep! Thoguht they were going to hurt themselves so got them back in after they had a bit of a leap about! Stables have windows so are all full of snow!
Hope it stops soon, but sick of mucking out in a blizzard!

Just up the road from JoBo and I am just about ready to give up horses and I fancy becoming a swimming instructor. Mr Worried has not worked since before Christmas.

Anyone who says us Southerners are soft take note - we have pretty much had snow heres since the 15th December!

We have a loopy Blitz who doesn't know what to do with himself so is trying to swing anyone who enters his stable round by their hoods!

One livery who is rearing, cantering and squeaking round it's box so we turned it out in our turnout pen and then it just stood by the gate demanding to be brought in.

As fast as we clear the yard and salt it - the snow falls and covers it again.

We have no water, the bolts have sheared on the main barn door, then it blew in the wind and cracked the hinge and frame.

My outdoor stables despite having a 6ft overhang have snow up to the doors.

The drifts are over the top of my knees in places.

My lovely new waxed surface is covered by at least 12 inches of snow.

We are at the end of the power grid and our electric is really low - the lights are struggling to come on - my hairdryer - lets just say a fart is warmer and more powerful! Food is taking twice as long to cook in the oven etc, etc, etc

Oh and did I mention I am 20 weeks pregnant and have so far missed two appointments with the midwife as I can't get to her...

I hope you are ok with your pregnancy. One of my livery clients is a few days past her due date and getting really worried!! Lets hope this snow clears soon! x

We are coping ok here, we have tonnes of white stuff, but getting about ok and horses fine and happy. Only change to routine really is having to bring water from home as the pipes have frozen, but thats not a big deal really.

HOWEVER, I just went to buy some more bedding, and the shop had sold out of EVERYTHING! Luckily I managed to get 4 bales (of 2 different types!), but they only had a few sacks of feed left, no haylage....crazy! I'm glad I restocked on feed for the month last weekend before the snow came!

Made it to yard for the first time this week today, went to the feed shop, back to the yard and then attempted to get home!! Only just made it home as well, the worst part of my journey stupidly was through town and i've no idea how i made it up the A249 as everytime i stopped at traffic lights i could hardly get going forwards again, was just spinning and wiggling about all over the place!!!

Have abandoned my car in the close as i couldn't get on driveway and i doubt i'll be going to yard tomorrow as this is supposed to carry on!!!

I am fine thanks, hope your client is OK - think we did the right thing opting for a May baby as I would be bricking myself if I was due in this weather!

Its awful here! a normally 3 minute jounrney to the yard this morning took 25 minutes and involved sliding back down a hill down 360's and ending up in a hedge! Not much fun un a micra!! Given up on the idea of going back up tonight and TO is getting horse in...to top it all off my mobile has apparently given up (anyone else having probs with Orange) and the lights are flickering menacingly....!

Quite bad here in medway but managing to get to the horses in 4x4, having to take water with me though! If the forcast for tonight is right the worst is still to come, tomorrow could be fun!!!!

We went to get extra hay, but got stuck and ended up putting it on the road to help us drive up the hill!!!
Fingers crossed everyone is ok and this snow stops soon!

I can't believe how much snow we have had over the last few days - it was thick enough this morning but then it has been snowing continuously all day long. I'm pretty long in the tooth and I can't remember ever having snow like this before! So glad I got a load of big bale haylage in this year so I don't have to worry about having to go out and get forage for the horses.

The snow is totally unbelivable... I had to walk the dogs in my skiing goggles this afternoon it was so blizzardy... I can only see about a foot of my car peaking through the foot we have on our drive, so it looks like I wont be going back to Uni tomorrow... boo... move over snow, I was summer....

Feeling good as we have dug our Discovery out of storage! I have had health problems so decided to put it away as I wont be towing in the near future but the minute we did that, down came the snow. Now I know that I can get to the yard easily, it all seems more manageable

I'm feeling a bit guilty about having filled my Shetland's stable up with bales of hay, so he's having to stay out at night on his own!

They have plenty to eat though!

The lovely chap who owns my field is clearing the drive every day, and then there is another dump of snow !!

He and his family's cars haven't left the drive for days, whereas I merrily come and go, dragging canisters of water with me.

It's a pain in the arse all this, but my lot are all quite happy.
