Does anyone have any unbiased safety information regarding KEP hats? Do they conform to all the latest BETA safety requirements?
Many thanks.

I do not know what safety standards KEP hats currently hold, but if anyone is considering buying a KEP helmet do read through this thread first.

And read that thread in the light of the fact that the safest hats are now MIPS hats, which stands for Multiple Impact Protection System, whereas according to that thread, KEP think that their hats falling apart on one impact is a safety feature.

Check out the appalling customer service, too!

Sadly I think you could find a similar story for every hat manufacturer.

No but a hat failing in a major impact situation.

Do you mean breaking? Because "breaking" is not the same as "failing", there is only so much impact any hat can take (too strong and your brain just smacks the inside of your skull). There's only one hat manufacturer whose product I'd describe as failing, and that's KEP.

I've seen mixed opinions on this too. Some people love them, but others question their safety standards. Checking for updated certifications and real crash experiences might give a clearer picture.

Having had a TBI at a show at Wales and west in 2017, my life was significantly changed for many years after that. For the first time in a 40 + years of riding, I fully understood the significance of a safe riding hat. I had a Protector, which was the first of the SNELL hats that didn’t break on impact. I hit a post in the arena head first at 20mph. That hat saved my life and sadly they sold out out to Patey. KEP were fashionable at the time (I showjumped to it was always about the bling in those days) I just thank god I made the decision to have a safe hat back then or I wouldn’t be posting now. I have had to see alternatives now and the MIPS hats would have probably reduced some of the significant concussion issues I had at the time. Just find the highest safety hat you can and go for that

Edited to add that when this happened, it was three months before I posted on Facebook (couldn’t look at a screen for months due to my head injury) to thank my hat for saving my life. This post shared hundreds of times and people who saw me have my accident at the show replied and said they were thankful I had survived the accident. The MD of protector contacted me and offered to examine my hat and refurbish it or replace free of charge. They said I took a 400psi impact to the head which is equivalent to a 2tonne impact. Any other hat and they would have been removing my brain off the the post in that arena. Be very careful about the hat you buy - it could save your life
