Keratex hoof hardener.

Has anyone used of tried this product.

Cappelli had to have her shoes off on saturday in preparation for her opertaion this week. The farrier does expect them to break up tho ( frount more than backs ) but said i cant do much if they break up then theres nothing i can do.

I was just wondering if using keratex hoof hardener would help to keep the foot intact of if anyone could reccommed a similar product?.

I dont want to waste the money if it doesnt make a difference but if it does then i will buy some. She will be on full box rest but after a while im hoping she will be able to walked out in hand for grass and ulmiantly turned out in a pen at the end of her recovery time.

i tried a bottle once, but didnt see any difference. only my experience though, others might have better

I have seen good results, a friend of mine who used to breed TBs used it on the feet of her unshod youngsters to keep them in shape after trims, also my farrier recommends it.

I think it can make the hoof wall brittle (so not suitable if that is your problem and would only use it around the edges, but it does work, particularly on soft hooves

I have found it very good - one bottle last for ever as you don't have to apply it to the whole hoof. My farrier swears by it and he is a hard man to impress!

Started using it in 2001 (1 horse a year) - have lost 2 shoes since, and my horses go 7-8 week between farrier visits after the first few weeks... despite coming to me in various stages of unloved-ness/neglect/unhandlability.
Don't use it over the whole hoof - stick to the bottom rim and onto the edge of the sole.
Finally this year I have a common-bred horse from a normal backgroud with incredibly good feet so I just use it occasionally to harden her soles against the very stony lanes.

when my friends horse had a op on his hooves where most of them were cut away and were at a risk of ceumbling the used iodine and sugar < it was recommended by the vets, his hooves are now soild looking great and he is on the mend, the vets that recommended it was Rase at market rasen .
