They do. I know a rider that was spoken to with a phone call from Yogi and have not competed since, but I am not mentioning names as I believe they are about to compete again (off over a year).
I know someone who got a few TF time faults in her first OIU21. She had to have XC lessons with a BE trainer beofre she was allowed to do another one and there was a lot of feedback between Yogi and trainer regarding the specific areas to be covered in the lessons. She was then watched XC on her next run.
I know this only happened because she's a junior but it seems like a reasonable approach and would transfer quite easily to anyone riding at any level. After all if they've ended up on the 'watch-list' then by definition someone must have watched them!
The landing zone thing might be an idea, but woodchips can be very slipperly - as I know to my cost as horse completely lost hind legs and fell over in a woodchip collecting ring, and others also complained about said collecting ring. I wouldn't dismiss the idea completely, but it would need to be studied and gone into. Some courses have all weather take-offs and landings already, so it is really an extension of that.
The hard ground = more injuries is obvious really. Think of the racing at Cheltenham, in a rainy year the horses fall due to being tired and generally get up OK. If the going is firm they go much faster the falls tend to be much more serious. (Completely off topic, but a friend fell out of a tree and the ground was soft - he made a dent. Had the ground been hard he would have been seriously injured if not killed.)
Very interesting, particularly regarding the exo. Woodchip is pretty good really, we have a jumping field with wood chip all the way along, we got it for free from a local tree surgeon who are desperate to get rid of the stuff. Never had problems with slippyness etc as long as it's not too thick. I meant to ask this before, if someone is wearing just a point 2 is it counted as them wearing a body protector? I've seen this and know its supposed to be used with a normal BP so why was this allowed?
JessPickle, it isn't allowed, the Point2 has not been tested and does not conform to the Beta standard for bps (because sometimes they do not go off, so you have no protection at all). but someone said in a thread about them last weekend (another that mysteriously got deleted, their PR people really are hot about anyone talking about them, even if it is the truth...) a sales lady did not know that you have to wear it over a bp for eventing...
Harrie, the comment wasn't about hard ground suiting or not suiting your horse, or about aerovating the course etc. it was about hard ground in the landing area actually being deadly if you have a rotational.
In the Hickstead eventers grand prix surely they should have had more than just a point 2 on. The eventers generally had BP and P2 and showjumpers just a P2. In the outer rings I saw some P2's all worn without a BP underneath, they seem to have left that out of the extensive marketing. Maybe I am just young and cynical!
Did they give any indication of the timescale for the introduction of the titanium body cage? Just thinking that if this also has to be worn over a BP then what happens with the £500 point 2 jackets? Are they obsolete or work on top of the cage that is on top of the BP
Could that be why point 2 are so keen to "pimp" them out at any costs now as a (BETA Approved?) competitor is in the immediate pipeline?
Would/could there be some sort of proven comparision between the cage and point2 done?
Is anyone looking into neck protection as this seems, to me anyway, to be the only thing "lacking" in the protection offered by the exo/body cage and what most people seem to use in defence of point 2?
no indication of timescale, JC had seen the titanium one though and described it, so it exists, it's not just on a piece of paper afaik!
neck protection is a worry, see my point above about FC's fall, JC's comments about testing, etc...
bp + cage + point2 = michelin man, i think!
Jess Pickle, i don't know if the sjers usually wear a bp for that, if they are supposed to then yes, the Point2 is not enough on its own.
