Thankyou! I haven't seen it yet, H&H subscription copy is late (again), i'm a bit nervous about how they might have edited my letter though (they always edit them, i'm a bit verbose!) but i've been told i don't sound horribly sanctimonious... hope not!
hope local HHOers like champers cos it's really not my tipple. Lovely to receive though, thanks H&H.
If it just makes a few people think, as i did, "****, it's not about how good a rider you are (or think you are), it really can just be pure awful luck" and stick a good hat on, then great...
btw, Courtney King-Dye is now off the ventilator and breathing on her own, but still in a coma, day 16 after the accident...
I've already sent an email (her hubby and friends are reading them out to her) to comebackcourt@gmail.com
maybe we could do a joint one from all HHOers, anyone fancy writing it?
Well done you. You should show them some of the pictures of the riders down here at the tour, although I will admit more jumpers are wearing protection, not one Brit in the dressage warm up is.
mik it's interesting that since some of the high profile jumpers have had serious falls in the past few years, they have started to take safe headwear very seriously. Peter Charles once got on a horse of mine that I'd had 3 days, and bought cheaply because of it's reputation as a dirty stopper, wearing trainers on his feet and no hat on his head, and proceeded to jump it round his "fake Hickstead" track - needless to say it went beautifully for him but I know that since his fall he has looked after his head much more carefully.
So maybe eventually dressage riders will come to their senses too
yay! well done you little clever clogs! i'm going to buy H&H for the first time in about 3 yrs now! i expect to see it framed next time i come round (if i ever manage to escape from the snore-inducing office)
Editor "can't see" a crash hat being worn above a tailcoat, and doesn't "share [Kerilli's] optimism that competing in modern hats would persuade riders to wear them at home. But dreadful accidents ... just might".
Mind you, I suppose she can't go all out and agree with Kerilli if she is going to carry on putting photos of elite riders wearing no hats or unfastened hats in the magazine
