Keysoe International

I used to go there a lot twenty years ago, and the business model ran on a lot of volunteer labour, I stopped going as I decided I just thought there were better places to spend hours of my time, and I was supporting someones business.
Mick George spent a huge amount of Houghton near St Ives, which had an massive indoor, but I think he wasn't that interested, and was run a bit like Keysoe without the outdoors, but it had liveries. Its now not used for equestrian and we used to go to compete at both.
I suppose top end clinics are where the profit is, not turnover, you can run a huge event and still lose money, an undersubscribed clinic is a smaller risk. Clinics need less people, less wear and tear on your surface and it you have liveries you have a steady income. If you have high end goods to sell, your profit is 50% of a lot more.
There are also less people around who want to give there time, often for the whole day, for coffee, lunch and a box of chocs.
Mick George ran it for the alloted 3 years they had to, to be able to get change of use. Never planned to keep it long term as an equestrian centre

I can't fathom the amount of money spent on it over the last few years. But I do love it as a facility. It's such a shame they stopped doing affiliated shows as they were a brilliant day out.

Incidentally I've just booked to hire the SJ arena for a few weeks time.

Weirdly I went to keysoe more before I used to live here 🤣 and inside was very tired/dark. Pretty much everything they do annoys somebody, even not wanting dogs in the cafe/round the arenas 🤣

More plans this week on Facebook - Keysoe International. Bizarre that none of the plans have any planning applications at Bedford Council

The women who owns Keysoe is a very strange one. Huge ideas, big financial backing, but has managed to fall out with BD, BE & BS. Which is no mean feat! The fact that she helps bank roll the [unwelcome content removed] makes things even worse IMHO! Her opinion on grassroots is scathing and she wants Keysoe to be on par with Sentower and the other big European venues. What i don't understand is she goes on about it being an elite training venue, but BS,BD and BE already have access to such places. Home Farm was purchased by BS (a whole other story) And i is regularly used and is 10 minutes from the M1/A14/M6 so far more accessible. None of it really adds up.

Not running competitions feels such a waste of all those great facilities 🤷‍♀️
The facilities aren’t wasted at all they are busy with all levels of horses training on them. Everyone from pony club to Olympic riders & many riders in between. If you want to give up 22 hours of your day for free to come and run a competition at a loss then buy a competition centre and you can have all of our business.

They have been running monthly clear round show jumping and also done some dressage competitions and combined training competitions, so that isnt true. But they are bloody expensive! It cost me £44 to enter for two clear rounds of jumping 😱
The price is advertised ahead of booking. If it’s expensive then surely it’s better to book somewhere cheaper? Nobody is forced to enter yet they still do. They just book pay & still moan which is odd when it’s not compulsory.

I don’t really see where it’s all going but hey it’s nothing to do with us! I don't think the plan is to recoup the money spent (tax write off?) which is why I find the whole not running the big competitions thing odd as made no money so ran at a loss…. The patting ponies charity will also help with this.
Their kid is having some serious money spent on her being in training with Cian O Connor and some decent horsepower. Lucky her with all those facilities.

Your conspiracy theories are ridiculous. There is no tax write off. Competitions are messy, time consuming and aren’t financially viable. I’m not sure why the public think they have an automatic right to demand what happens at Keysoe international. It’s a private facility so people just need to get over the fact the site has changed. Our charity foundation is set up to educate children & offer alternative provision, build school facilities & sponsor para athletes. What we spend our money on is our business. Too many green eyed people in the equestrian world.

Where did your money come from again? Could you remind us all

I'm just not really sure how it is all going to fit together and fit in with the area. Can't say it is particularly in a place that would draw in lots of visitors, outside of riders using the training facilities.

That’s the whole point. It’s not supposed to draw in loads of outsiders. It’s being built for onsite and visiting athletes. As for your comments made about PPE, not only slanderous & defamatory which by the way comes with unlimited damages, you are talking total garbage. I’ve paid more tax than you ever will. Stupid general public reading trashy articles which feeds your green eyed jealousy issues. Get a life!

I can understand not wanting to have to deal with BS/BD/BE though if you don’t have to. All unaff stuff they have run has been fully booked well ahead of time even though it is £££
We will continue to run unaffiliated & affiliated training & team pathway training too. It’s always booked up and yes will always be more expensive. People need to decide if they would prefer to pay less and get less elsewhere. We are not concerned if people don’t want to come due to the price. There will also be a yearly membership fee to pay to use the facilities & if people don’t want to pay that then that’s fine too. You sound one of the sensible ones.

Ah sorry I didn't realise. I don't compete these days. I used to know alot of people who went there to compete but I never hear it mentioned so I thought they'd stopped. The high entry fees may explain why I don't hear it mentioned. Bury Farm is closer for dressage or SJ but Keysoe was always popular for one day events and hunter trials.

ETA - there are no competitions listed in their upcoming events
That’s because it’s not a competition centre anymore. As much as we are still asked to run shows including international events - people need to get over the fact they can’t compete there anymore. There are plenty of other places to go.

Sarah it doesn't do you any favours coming on and being aggressive to everyone and thinking they are all beneath you.

If all of the published articles are factually incorrect (which is all anyone can base their opinion on) Then why not take them to court for it and show what the truth is?
There are too many stupid people around to deal with them all & a total waste of my time. Much of the public seem too stupid to be abe to read articles properly. Most of the comments on this thread are pathetic & ignorant, and a racist one added in for good measure. And for the record I don’t need it to do me any favours. Absolute drivel.

I will explain it simply so you understand. It comes from 25 years of designing, manufacturing & selling surgical products & medical devices globally. Advising healthcare professionals worldwide on how to keep clinicians safe & showing surgeons how to apply surgical products correctly. Jealousy is a really ugly trait. You should try working harder then you could have your own competition centre & run it for free and invite all the other negative whiners.

As I stumble across this forum, I am utterly disgusted in H&H for not policing this forum. I had to register to comment, and I find in this day and age, it is completely reckless that you don't even have to use your name to be able to register. This just incites bullying and trolling online. Is this what H&H has to do to sell magazines, and get views online?

Do you think you are going to be allowed to go on behaving like this? The stoutes don’t need your money, they’ve got multiple companies, it was bought for private use and they offered to run some shows short term before exploring options. They had such crap behaviour at shows, and so much mess that they knew it didn’t fit in with what they wanted to build.

If you want to go to one of the best centres in the UK surely you expect to pay for it? Would you go to the best restaurant in the UK and expect to pay wetherspoon prices?..... NO!

The only people who don't do any favours for themselves or the equestrian world are the people who write negative nasty things on forums like this.

I hope the Stoute family realise that once upon a time, equestrian people were kind, polite, and competitive people, and these are the people who they should take comfort from, that they wish them well and truly hope that they build an equestrian centre second to none.
