Anybody tow with a Kia sorrento?
My trusty fourtrak needs to much welding for me to get through a mot,
So needing a new towing vehicle, I tow a 15.3 warmblood in a ifor 505, my fourtrak has always been fab, I've had a LWB shogun and a discovery but found both to costly to run, been recommended one of these but wanted a few more views before making my mind up :)

Awesome :) going to look at a 2004 model tomoro, glad u mentioned about the road tax although this ones at my limit so wouldn't be able to afford a newer model anyway lol

i have a sorrento going for scrap. 06 and i had nothing but nightmares with it. oil ran through it too quickly so engine seized. got engine replaced and it cut out 2 more times. Nightmare jeep. The four wheel drive never worked on mine properly. used to have to get towed out of hunter trial car parks constantly. think i might have just got a dodgy one tho!

another friends one the electricity used to just short on it, and she'd be left with no power at all. really scary.

I'm getting a new jeep shortly but to be honest i'd never go for a sorrento again. i know people rave about them but just seen too many going wonky! One of the tow guys who picked me up says they are one of the most common ones to breakdown. The only jeeps he rated were landcruisers, volkswagons and mitsubishis

I had an 04 from new, did 100,000 in it and it was fabulous. Towing superb, little bit thirsty on our hills though, it was an auto. Never had any mechanical problems. I would recommend.

Look for a late, low mileage Nissan Terrano - they always have great reviews. Mine is the LWB 3 ltr but drives like a car with attitude, can't tell you the MPG because I only do short journeys but it isn't overly thirsty..

I have a 53 plate, diesel auto Sorento, lovely to drive and tow with (Ifor Williams 511). Its done 100,000 miles and not had any major problems at all with it; passed MOT first time every year, had to replace battery and fuel injector but that's all. Would get another :)

I've got an 07 plate Sorento, and it is in the lower tax bracket.Fab car, tows my Ifor 505r out of muddy fields with no problem at all.I did a lot of research before I bought mine and I believe it was the caravan club's top rated towing car.Avoid the newer ones though, they have a lower towing capacity.

I have a 04 Sorrento and I LOVE it. Tow an IW510 with my boy (16h TB) and occasionally friend on board with it. Never been stuck. Comfortable and reasonably economic (relatively speaking!) Would highly recommend

We have an 05 Sorrento, Absolutely fab! towing my 15.2 in a 505 ifor, hardly feels like there's anything on the back!!
even gets about 40mpg on the long journeys!!(minus the trailer)
Hope the viewing goes well :D

I've got a 57 plate one which I've had from new. Only problem I've ever had was the reverse gear selector failing on the gearbox, which was more than slightly inconvenient when 300 miles from home towing a large caravan on holiday! (RAC were absolutely brilliant I have to say).

I've a 17.2hh WB and a 510 which it tows brilliantly, but the newer models cannot tow the same weight, so check first.

I have 4 friends who have them and they're nothing but trouble.

They are all JUST out of the 7 year warranty and it seems they just fall apart after this. They had problems with the engine, the 4 x 4 not working properly and the power completely cutting out while driving along the motor way (mechanics could not find the reason for this....so could happen again at any time). I was considering getting one before and was warned off them by a few different mechanics.

They are lovely car's to drive, really comfortable but just not made for horses and driving in fields. They are more suited to moms dropping their kids to and from school! I've been to a few hunter trials and I've seen more sorrento's being pulled out by tractors than any other type of car.

Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole to be honest.

I have an 05 plate automatic – had the car for about 1 ½ years – absolutely love it, fantastic to tow with, fairly economical compared to other 4x4. Never had any mechanical issues with mine – granted the 4x4 on it is not like a discovery but you can get special tyres put on that the normal road tyres which will help with stickier surfaces but I’ve driven into fields with trailer on the back and been fine while lorries etc are getting stuck.

I looked at these, but coudn't find one with reasonable milage and history in my budget! So I got a Jeep Cherokee instead! I was actually looking for a Terrano, but again, nothing local that wasn't a rustbucket.....I miss my old Fourtrack and the Jeep actually behaves in a similar fashion off road, haven't towed with it yet! I think the main problem with muddy fields people have isn't the 4X4 system but the tyres...you can have the best 4x4 box in the world but if your tyres have no grip, forget it - you are stuck, just get some mud and snow's on and you'll be fine!

i have a 2004 auto, its brilliant, but thirsty. But i bought a low milage with FSH. Haven't had any issues towing of fields, but have off road tyres on. it actually is better at towing that the grand jeep cherokee i had before it.
