Just a quick question, went to the yard this evening and my horse has this mark on him. First off i thought it was a kick as it was a slightly swollen but now i'm not so sure. He is currently out at night and had a lightwight turnout on last night because of the rain, and a friend said that it look like it was a rub from the rug and not a bite or kick.

Just wanted to see if anyone else has seen a mark like this, if it is the rug i will have to get another one.

I'd say beyond a shadow of a doubt it's been caused by the rug. BUT - it doesn't look like a rub, it looks like the rug has caught on something eg gate, fence post, tree branch and caused a nasty graze/tear on your horse's shoulder as he's tried to pull away from whatever he was caught on. I'd check all the fastenings on your rug just to make sure they aren't either ripped off or bent.

Yes I'd agree that the rug had been caught on something and the horse has pulled back causing the mark. Maybe there'll be a clue if you check the other side of the rug - a rip, teethmarks or something. A mystery!

Thanks for the replies,

I did check his rug yesterday but there was nothing on it at all, no rips or snags at all.

He is out with another horse at night and he really isnt the kind to kick or bite so it must of been the rug, i have never seen a rub like this before but i knew somone on here would help me.
:)
