kicked hock and burst busae??help

my 3yo got a kick today in the feild, and i got the vet to look at it. she could fit her whole finger in it. it was only 1 finger width, but the whole pocket of the bursae was burst. is this lickly to coz a problem in the future for her? has anyone else had the unfortunate experience of this? let me know how ur horse got on or horses you know got on please. want to know what to expect.
 
My friend's TB sustained a nasty kick to his hock about 3 mionths ago. It was right on the joint and was leaking joint fluid so was a medical emergency that required an immediate GA and surgery to flush out the joint capsule before infection set in which could easily have killed him. His recovery was very slow with proud flesh forming that would have meant that the wound never healed. Luckily it responded to copper sulphate to burn it off so it didn't require further surgery to remove the proud flesh. At the time, the vets advised that if the injury hadn't been found within an hour or so of it happening then the outcome could have been very different. He is now ok and being ridden although the wound still has an ugly scar. There is no saying as to whether he will have arthritis in the joint at a relatively young age due to the trauma. I am staggered that your vets seem to be taking this so lightly if your horse's joint capsule has been ruptured. My understanding is that if infection gets into a joint capsule and becomes established, it can be almost impossible to clear up as there is such a limited blood supply to the joint itself. Are they recommending any action?????
 
Box of frogs my mare had a similar injury to your friends horse.. again it was a medical emergency and was rushed for GA and seems similar with a second ops due to mushrooming flesh...At the time of her injury i was told i had 2 choices opperation or pump her full of antibiotics and it might work...
I would be concerned as to why your vet is not more concerned and would seek a different opion.

no the bursae is like a fluid filled pocket that is over the hock joint, she has not burst her hock joint- that would be very serious.
