This morning I went out to the stables to discover Poppy and Winnie standing up to their fetlocks in water and water pouring out of Poppy's water trough. Poppy had kicked the trough and it is now hanging off the wall. She has been kicking for about two weeks now and I dont know why as her and winnie still seem to get on well. Pops is only young and there isnt much to keep her occupied in her stable so I am thinking she is maybe just doing it because she is bored. Do you think one of them horse toys would do any good? I think it would but my mum disagrees. How else could I get her to stop kicking?

Thay are a brill idea, I had a horse that used to rip parts of his stable off so got him a ball and gave him a plastic lid! (he loved the lid more as he could throw over the door when I was there to get it for him)
You can only try and see.
Good luck with it.

Not good then.

Does she run out of hay overnight?
Are there rats/mice in the stables?

I used to use a feed ball, it kept my horse amused but drove everything else barmy with it being kicked about the place.

Could you not turn the horses out over night? I know not all yards allow this, but over the summer it would perhaps be the best idea for a youngster.

She probably does run out of hay during the night but I dont want to feed her more than she gets. Ill have to get a haynet with small holes so it takes her longer to eat. There isnt any rats/mice. We have a very good mice/rat/mole/rabbit/bird catching cat. lol
I could turn her out at night as its my own place but I couldnt turn any of the others out with her as one has laminitis, one is prone to colic and the other is a very good doer. I dont think she would like being on her own outside, she would probably just stand at the gate making a lot of noise all night.
