My new horse kicks hell out of the stable door when people are feeding there horses. I am going to put a barrier up and keep the door open so she cant do it anymore but i am wondering if anyone has any other ideas that might help? Thanks

I'm afraid not! I have two on my yard who kick their doors. You can't hear yourself think at feeding time! However, it helps if all horses ar fed together as this reduces the total amount of banging. I have tried eveythingto cure tese horses ad nothing has woked and now (after 10 years with one of them) I have given up.

i had a mare who did this badly enough to lame herself, so i filled a car tyre with newspapers, wrapped around the whole thing with duct tape, and then tied it on the inside of the door, so she knee'd the tyre not the door, which muffled the sound and stopped her from hurting herself. obviously the door and hinges have to be very strong to hold up the weight etc.
or, i have 1 here at the moment who bangs the door, and i have a sheet of eva-foam (stable floor matting) cut to fit and hanging inside his door, so he kicks that first. it doesn't muffle the noise much though.
or, there is a brilliant device called a Stop-Kick iirc which some clever-clogs developed, it is filled with water and sits on the outside of the door, and when the horse bangs the door, it squirts upwards. very effective apparently but quite expensive. depends how nuts you are being driven!

on a friend of mine's yard they have one that used to kick the door continuously!

They got this little box thing (dont no name!). Basically it attaches to the outside of the stable door and when the horse kicks it it squrts some water up at them. Really worked now he doesnt kick the door at all! But he can still put his head over door etc.

They had them for a couple of horses on there yard and they all worked really well and quickly!

aah, it's this, the Quit-Kick.

£200...

I found a full large Flexi-Tub of water placed in front of the door (on the inside obviously!) worked just as well with 2 horses I have had that kicked the door. They can still stand close enough to look out the door, but if they kick they get splashed....I think it probably depends on how smart and/or determined your horse is as they can kick either side of the bucket, but mine found this too awkward not to bother.

Some good ideas. I am definitley going to give the bucket in front of the door scenario a go! she has a huge flexi tub. I like the idea of the water sprayer but dont have 200 to burn unfortunatley! when i open the stable door she just stands and scrapes the floor instead. Im going to fill her stable with toys to try and keep her occupied as well.
