My mum's dog has just been diagnosed with kidney issues, and the vet recommended Hills kidney food. It's eye wateringly expensive and doesn't seem to contain anything different to the food she already has.

So is it genuinely something that helps or just another feed company marketing gimmick?

I've had a couple of terriers whose kidneys have failed in later life. The kidney failure diet is lower in protein than a 'normal' one. Does the Hills food have different proportions of the same ingredients as your usual food, maybe?
