I'm currently looking after two dogs for someone; gorgeous 11 month old lab bitch and a 6 year old Border Terrier. I looked after the pair of then for two days late last year and the owner mentioned at that time that the border terrier was rather thin despite a good appetite and owner didn't know why. Anyway, she still looks poor and I've noticed that she seems to drink quite a lot - particularly noticeable on walks as she stops several times to drink from puddles. Mine drink from puddles, too, but I've kept the border on a lead (as she's prone to "taking off") whereas my dogs tear around madly off the lead and wear themselves out, so I can understand that they become thirsty. Is weight loss and excessive thirst a sign of kidney problems in dogs (like I said she is only 6) or possiby diabetes? Anyone out there with any knowledge of these problems?? Thanks!
