Has anyone had a horse with kidney issues?

Over the last five weeks my mares slowly become aggressive to touch anywhere other then her neck. I had a second vet out to her last week and a full blood profile was taken. Results have come back and only thing shown is something wrong with her kidneys (I'm not 100% sure what as was in process of getting ready for a wedding!) the vets have sent the bloods off to another lab for testing so I'll ask more questions Tuesday when I speak with the vet again!

Has anyone experienced kidney problems and what was your horses symptoms? And did they go on to live a normal life?

Kidney problems on horses are rare. The only other horse I've heard of apart from mine is yours. Mine was cold backed, tore his rugs at the sides, drank like a fish and lost weight even though he was ravenous. Other than that he looked very well. I'm afraid by the time I found a vet who would believe me that he was ill and test for it, it was too late to save him. But he did begin showing symptoms two years before he was put down. Hopefully you have caught yours in time.

Sorry to hear you lost your boy.

She's slowly become very grumpy to touch, firstly started in the girth area and flanks. Over the last few weeks it's gotten to the stage where if I even as much as stroke my hand across her hind quarters or back she'll spin and try to boot me, tries to bite/lash out in front. She's not as interested in hay and shows no interest in the large paddock likit I've just put out (she usually loves these and is greedy) she's dropped weight, not masses but for a pony who's a very good doer and always looks like a hippo at this time of year and being in no work weight loss is worrying me!

I've had her from weaning and she's now 8 so know what's normal and what's not for her. Praying it's nothing major, I've had enough bad luck and losses with horses in the last 12 months.

I didn't ask vet any questions when she rung as was in middle of getting ready for a wedding and my mind was else where. I'll be asking questions Tuesday when the second lab results come back. Just trying to get some ideas on what I'm potentially facing.

I found the best thing for him was grass, grass and more grass. That was one of my problems. For two years he got better every summer and worse every winter and no vet would believe me that he was ill.

I think you have caught yours much, much earlier than mine. Hopefully with some treatment yours can recover.

She's on quiet good grass, it's just etc and my other pony on the field as have my own yard, it's only in the last six weeks she's lost weight.

Hoping it's nothing major and something easily treated.
