Got a phonecall at work today.

I quote:

"We're sorry to tell you that your daughter has suffered a serious head injury and we are waiting for an ambulance to take her to hospital. She is not conscious all of the time, and we are trying to keep her awake by talking to her. She is bleeding from the head and nose. Get someone here asap to go in the ambulance with her. Does she have any known allergies?"

You can imagine my reaction.

She'd fell in the playground and landed really badly. Seems she doesn't need a pony to put herself in hospital!

She was sick and very sleepy. She's home now, with steri stitches in her forehead, a badly cut up knee, bruised and grazed hip and grazed hand. And concussion.

I mean, really, OH MY GOD!!!! As if I wasn't a nervous wreck enough?????????????

I give up. Honestly and truely. She's being bubble wrapped from tomorrow.
:(:(:(

You poor poor thing, that's got to be well into the top 10 worst phonecalls for a parent to receive !! I hope she's ok and recovers quickly x

It really was. Do you know, she's sat next to me, in bed watching "Over the Hedge" eating salt and shake crisps and pleased she's not in school tomorrow.

Covered in bruises, cuts, stitches etc.... and laughing her bum off!!!

I'm selling her.......

at least she is feeling ok  hope she is better soon have they said how long she is not allowed to ride for?

kids are just accident prone, but remember they heal a lot faster than adults
glad she's all ok and hope she has some good war wounds to show her friends

Ahhhhh, hope she is OK, you sound more worried by it than she is though (normal i might add:)), they are so resilient, i bet she sleeps like a baby tonight and you will be up every 5 minutes checking on her :D

Someone needs to have a word with the secretary!
"Hello, Mrs Redmone? Just to let you know daughter RM has had a bit of a bump in the playground. She's cut her head, and we've called an ambulance to get her checked out, but try not to worry too much. Could you get to the school sooner rather than later, as she's a bit dopey, and it would be good if you were here to comfort her, and go in the ambulance, if she needs to go to A&E?"
Would have exactly the same desired effect - Mummy at school ASAP - but possibly reduce the risk of Mummy RM having an accident en route, as she's panicking and distraught!

Hope she feels better soon xx

Ohhhh I'm so glad you get what I mean!!!

I know it was serious and they totally did the right thing, but I almost needed a bed in A & E beside hers!!!

Thank you!!! :o

Thank you everyone!

I know this isn't a horsey post, but GOD what a day!!!

Yes, I'm definately in more of a state than she is (mentally anyway!) but she's gonna be sore tomorrow.

Head injuries leaflet says no school (or sports activity) until recovered completely. Well don't know how to judge that. She's aiming for normal Saturday lessons (missed tonight's obviously!) but we'll see....... might ask riding school's advice - they've bound to have seen this before.

Think the knee will give her problems - it's cut in a good few places and massively bruised, bet she can't bend it properly tomorrow. And no way hat will fit on over the bump, it's in just the wrong place.

Think she might have a week or so off to be honest. But yes, you're right, kids do heal quickly.

And heads bleed like a SOB!!!! :(

I'd probably give it a week or 2 before she gets on board again, only because she could probably do without another bump to the head so soon after. God what a day for you, kids worry you so much don't they, my daughter is horse mad and rides our 15.1, 4 year old. and son has taken up full contact rugby (as well as football and cricket....) I watched 1 match and decided I was never watching another!!!!!!! ;)

Yes, I was thinking that. Not told her yet.

Your nerves must be about as good as mine

Gosh, no wonder your in a state, hope she has a speedy recovery, i have yet to recive any calls like that, mine are 2 and 1, so i have got all that to come.:(

Yep! And if they follow your horsey footprints.......ooooo the fun!!!

Bubblewrap! It's the future! :)

Thank you for your well wishes! x

:D:D:D

If you get one, you should call it Pink Saucey!! There you go, that's the name sorted!!!

What am I saying if for.....you know you will!!! :)

:D:D good idea, i would never have thought of that, someone suggested that i get a roan, which i didn't think of either, and now i'll have them name to go with it.
Now to pursuade the OH......;)

OH how awful! Glad she is ok! Nice to hear from you,but not nice to hear bad news! Hope she gets better quickly xxx

Thank you.

I hope she feels better than she looks, cause she looks awful.

And here's me worrying about her on the pony!

I did do an update recently, so I'm not completely hidden! Just stalking around a bit more!

Nice you remembered us! Thanks! x x x

Glad to see you posting Redmone!
I'm betting no matter what she thinks, the reality is she shouldn't be riding until a minimum of 7 days have passed (thats what I was told after being dumped on my head) as swelling can carry on over a few days, and as she is obviously concussed, its going to hurt just lifting that little head, let alone cramming it into a hat and boarding the pony!
Poor love, but get used to it, its what kids do best.....help us parents go grey!

I opened this with my heart in my mouth thinking something had happened to her with Dolly! Glad she's feeling better after her traumas of the day.

We gave Dolly a carrot and pat last week as we were on a flying visit to see our black mare. It was school hours, so was sorry not to meet you, as we didn't manage a visit at half-term. She definitely looked slimmer, and very well in herself :)

Oh Redmone! I got the same sort of phone call a couple of months ago - only for my 6'2 teenage son! Can you imagine the force of him hitting his head on a concrete wall at speed!

Only my phone call informed me that they had already taken him to hospital and they were all back at the school  - why didn't they ring me earlier, when he had done it and before they whisked him off to A&E?

Anyway, I went to pick him up and as soon as I got there he threw up again violently so we all had to go back to A&E and because we live so far from the hospital they kept him in for another hour just to keep an eye on things! Honestly - the things kids put you through! We should have stuck to guinea pigs! ;)

I hope little Redmone doesn't have too much of a headache and is enjoying being spoilt for a little while - poor little sausage. Dolly will make her feel better a the weekend xx

I hope she is ok

Hey, at least you had a phone call. When my brother was in nursary (3) He went out to play in the 'safe' play area with a pair of binoculars round his neck .... can you guess what happened. He was playing on a climbing frame he slipped and was suspended via his neck for at least 1 min. Where was the supervision ? She had gone inside for a brew. When I went to pick up my brother he has bruises and cuts around his neck and was struggling to breathe. So that warrented a trip to the hospital.

After 1 week of shouting at teachers ect we found out that he had slipped during morning break ( 10.30) and we picked him up at ( 4.00pm), After a legnthy meeting with the head we got the climbing frame removed and quick release catches on all binoculars.

Now 1 year on my brother won't have anything round his neck or touching it, if it does he gags its obviously physcological.

Bless them they are such a worry ALL the time !! i've had a couple of those phonecalls, one of mine was "does your son always have a big lump on his hand" I said "err no he didn't when he left home this morning" turned out he'd broken 2 bones in his hand in the playground, cried to the playtime staff who told him "he'd be ok" later in the day he went to the office lady crying again because it hurt and she phoned me, I came home from work took him to the hospital, he ended up in plaster for 6 weeks.

My youngest has had 2 serious riding accidents too, once he fell over the front of the horse then her back leg kicked him in the head, he was sicking blood, his head swelled so big his hat was almost stuck on, he had two black eyes and a bleeding nose, he had to have brain scans and allsorts, i swore then he was giving up horses, 8 years later he is still cahooting round on them.

Last year he got his foot caught in stirrup as he came off half way over a jump and got dragged round and round the menage, he jumped off coughed a few times and got back on,

I was having palpitations and heart failure in the background !!!

Wishing your daughter a speedy recover xx

i am a school secretary and the schools appointed first aider so have had to make many a phone call to parents, most recently for teeth through lip, head injury similar to your daughters, suspected broken arm, severe asthma attack, and huge allergic reaction with swelling in mouth and tongue. And we are a tiny rural school with only 45 pupils, we must have very accident prone children ha ha! i would never panic a mummy like that though, no good them having an accident through rushing like a mad thing in a tizz.

Hope your poor daughter recovers soon, im sure she will enjoy all the fuss and wont mind missing a few days riding...my little one broke the tip of her finger clean off shutting in in a car door in the summer (ouch) and after the initial upset that she couldnt ride she was fine and quite enjoyed bossing me about giving me lessons on my horse instead :)
